Description

A Washington State campaign to put a price on the cost of carbon pollution seeks an experienced full time campaign manager to lead an effort to pass a 2018 ballot initiative. The successful candidate will work to build the components of a viable ballot measure, lead a signature gathering effort and run a successful campaign for the November 2018 ballot, working closely with a large coalition including climate advocates, social justice organizations,  Labor Unions, Tribes and businesses.


The Partners

The Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy is a coalition of organizations committed to building Washington's economy, improving the health of residents and leading the fight against climate change. The Alliance is a coalition including  the following who serve on the Governance Board – Community to Community, Climate Solutions, One America, Puget Sound Sage, Washington Conservation Voters, Washington Environmental Council, and Washington State Labor Council.  The Nature Conservancy is a conservation organization committed to pricing carbon at the state and national level in a way that is just, equitable and effective.  These partners will  create a political action committee with additional organizations, tribes, funders, and businesses, who will ultimately oversee the work of the campaign manager and campaign.


Responsibilities

The Campaign Manager will be responsible for overall planning and for day-to-day management and execution of the campaign. Specifically, the campaign manager will:

  • Working with campaign leadership and consultantss, helping develop a timeline and overall campaign plan to win, including a budget and budget oversight.
  • Ensure all aspects of campaign are implemented on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate work of campaign leadership coalition partners and consultants.
  • Plan, and coordinate a field plan, earned and paid media plan and overall voter contact plan.
  • Oversee various research include public opinion research.
  • Assist fundraisers and meet directly with donors as necessary to meet goals.
  • Hire, supervise and, if necessary, fire staff.
  • When appropriate, act as campaign spokesperson.
  • Responsibly execute the day-to-day decisions.
  • Keep volunteers, staff, steering committee, funders, and vendors focused on the signature gathering effort and a November victory.
  • Assume a proactive leadership role to foresee public and political opposition and deal with them in a timely fashion.

Required qualifications

  • Experience managing a statewide or large regional initiative or electoral campaign.
  • Has experience working in signature gathering campaigns.
  • Worked with a diverse coalition.
  • Has managed staff effectively.
  • Interacted successfully with various consultants.

Timeframe

Work will occur in three phases.  Phase 1 will focus on building the foundation and infrastructure for a successful campaign, and will run from January through mid-February.  Phase 2 will focus on overseeing a successful signature-gathering effort and grassroots empowerment, and will run from mid-February through June.  Phase 3 will focus on implementing the campaign to win on the ballot, and then wind down the campaign.  It will run from July through December.
