Position Summary
The Manager, Finance (Fellowships) will be a key member of the Finance team that develops and maintains the financial systems and processes that strengthen LEE, LEE Foundation and its PACs. The Finance team ensures that all financial transactions comply with internal and external regulations efficiently and effectively through appropriate systems.
The Manager, Finance (Fellowships) reports to the Director of Accounting and manages all of LEE's fellowship programs, credit card expense reporting, invoicing, staff reimbursement compliance, and reconciliations to ensuring that transactions are kept to the highest of standards. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of accounting experience, is someone who is continuously learning and improving upon systems and processes, thrives in a collaborative, entrepreneurial and fast pace environment, and is comfortable working and communicating with a diverse set of stakeholders towards ensuring highly compliant and audit ready accounting practices and procedures.
Position Location: Washington DC preferred; flexible to the East Coast
Travel Requirements: 5-10% if located in Washington DC; 15-20% if located elsewhere on the East Coast
Responsibilities:
- Primarily responsible for executing a collaborative project plan
- Set up and maintain fellows in Concur and share the list with program teams
- Ensure all fellows are paid in a timely manner
- Ensure all fellowship payments are properly coded in the financial system and re-class transactions as necessary
- Manage weekly check-ins between program team and Finance
- Provide weekly status reports to program teams
- Manage the completion and secure storage of required documents received from program participants: Including following up with team leads for documents, Archiving agreements, 1099 information follow up at the completion of the fellowship
- Extract completed AMEX, MasterCard, Invoices, and Staff Reimbursements from Concur (EMS)
- Audit processed invoices, AMEX and staff reimbursements to ensure adherence to reimbursement policies
- Upload audited transactions to financial software
- Reconcile uploaded transactions to monthly bank statement
- Work with Accounting Manager to reconcile monthly AMEX expenditures to statement by cardholder
- Identify questionable charges and working with cardholder to resolve
- Manage the AMEX rewards program payments and provide reports to Accounting Manager
- Special projects as designated by EVP, Strategy & Operations, team leader, and department heads
- Work with the Talent, Learning and Culture team to download semi-monthly payroll reports
- Prepare monthly benefits allocation spreadsheets and upload files for the following benefits: Paid time off (PTO), 401K, Employee, Health Deduction
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or commensurate years of work experience
- Three or more years of accounting experience
- At least one year of Accounts Payable system experience
- Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with accountants, clients, and upper management
- Good communication and presentation skills for communicating with support personnel and management and educating internal clients on accounting principles
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Flexibility to manage multiple workstreams and projects simultaneously; good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
- Detail oriented
- Experience working in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of Accounts Payable system experience
- Experience with non-profit accounting
- Experience working with other cloud-based accounting solutions (Blackbaud Financial)
- Deep alignment with LEE's mission
