Position Description

We are searching for a dynamic leader to serve as the full-time Deputy Director of Georgia Alliance for Progress. The position is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

The Deputy Director will play a central role in leading our growing organization. Working in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will ensure that we are identifying and securing the resources needed to fund our winning strategies, that we have a strong board and staff team and that we have strong relationships with partners and allies.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Member Engagement & Fundraising

·       Support ED in development and execution of fundraising program and Support board, members in fund development.

·       Lead Racial Equity plan implementation, focused on organizational development and member recruitment and engagement.

·       Build Member engagement program: develop strategy and execute monthly events and communications to cultivate support of GAFP.

·       Manage systems to track new members and introduce them to GAFP, and support current members in their outreach, recruitment and hosting successful recruitment events.

·       Develop and maintain foundation relationships through events, individual conversations, excellent proposals and reports.

·       Conduct research, outreach to and recruitment of in-state and national donor-members. 


·       Plan, design and distribute reports, briefings and other educational and promotional 
materials to members and other state and national member prospects. 


 

Organizational Strategy & Program Leadership

·       Work with the Executive Director to ensure we are doing the most important things to build a healthy progressive infrastructure in Georgia.

·       Steer development of aligned political and organizations planning processes to action, particularly with respect to developing budgets, fundraising plans and evaluation methods to build capacity.

       Represent the Alliance in meetings and discussions of state and national collaborations 
as appropriate. 


 

Develop a Strong and Effective Board

·       Staff the Board.  Set board schedule, manage agendas and support Board chairs in effective facilitation plans.

·       Support board members one-on-one to be successful in their role and ensure they are having a meaningful experience.

·       Staff quarterly board operations committee to advance organizational development projects.

·       Lead recruitment and onboarding of new board members.

 

Desired Experience and Skills:

       Demonstrated commitment to progressive values. 


       Expert relationship builder with ability to build strong relationships quickly, including 
with staff, funders, and external allies and partners. 


       Strong people skills, and ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.

       Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, including public speaking. 


       Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage several projects at once. 


       Ability to work proactively and independently. 


       Assertiveness and tact in handling confidential and sensitive issues and documents. 


       Experience using and maintaining databases to track/report on contributions and finances. 


       Basic familiarity with 501(c3), (c4) and 527 distinctions & regulations preferred. 


       Experience with event planning and/or scheduling a plus. 


       Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. 


       Strong work ethic & sense of humor.

 

Reports to:      Executive Director

Based in:         Atlanta, Georgia

Start date:       As soon as possible

Travel:             Some travel may be required

Salary:             Commensurate with experience
