Code for America is hiring for a several senior-mid level positions based at our headquarters in San Francisco, CA. Specifically, we are looking for folks with some sort of non-profit, civic tech, government or civic engagement experience for the following roles: Institutional Partnerships Manager (Fundraising/Development), Sr. Product Manager - Clear My Record, Sr. Product Manager - Integrated Benefits. These are all full-time, salaries positions. 

Institutional Partnerships Manager 

We're looking for an experienced and passionate fundraiser to join a fast-paced, mission-driven organization to help secure millions of dollars of philanthropic revenue. You'll report to the Senior Manager of Institutional Partnerships and work with a Development team of 6 to accomplish ambitious and exciting goals. This is an incredible opportunity for a mid-career fundraiser to work with major institutional funders, grow and refine your fundraising skills, and make a meaningful contribution to an organization making a real difference in people lives.


In this position you will:

  • Work with an amazing team to raise millions of dollars in order to help government work for the people who need it most.
  • Be responsible for managing the grant reporting and proposal processes including: tracking and communicating process to all internal stakeholders for each project, managing deadlines, gathering data and content, and creating first drafts.
  • Coordinate with finance department to gather required financial reports and documents needed for reports and proposals.
  • Create and/or gather all report and proposal attachments including: financial information, letters of support, work samples, board lists, appendices, etc.
  • Manage cultivation and stewardship plan including: support meeting prep, create decks, help with follow up, create and manage calendar of funder check-ins, touchpoints, invite funders to events, and draft correspondence.
  • Manage research and prospecting process including: identifying potential foundation and corporate funders, researching and write briefs on foundations, corporations, program officers and foundation trustees; tracking program officers, key corporations and foundations - via social media, Google Alerts, etc; and reading Industry publications like Chronicle of Philanthropy, Inside Philanthropy, etc. and identifying relevant articles for the team.
  • Manage all data including: coordinating with Development Coordinator to ensure all contacts, accounts, opportunities, and other relevant data is accurate and up-to-date
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate accounts: managing relationships with key contacts, work with tech team to secure in-kind donations as requested, manage cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of corporate funders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5+ years institutional fundraising experience and grant report and proposal writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong process and project execution skills
  • Highly organized with careful attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and adaptable, and able to juggle competing priorities and last-minute deadlines
  • Demonstrated success in building strong relationships across teams and working collaboratively and thoughtfully
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high standards of excellence
  • Experience with Salesforce is desirable

Sr. Product Manager - Clear My Record

We care deeply about reducing incarceration in this country and believe better access to services that help someone rebuild their life are critical to a healthy society. Millions of people are eligible to clear past offenses from their record that could disqualify them from employment, housing, student loans, or social services. Clear My Record is a free, online, multi-county channel that makes it easy for people to access record clearance opportunities. Code for America's mission is to clear all eligible records in the country and this role will be pivotal in meeting that aim. Code for America uses a data-driven, user-centered, and iterative approach to building technology. The Senior Product Manager will help us move from a product pilot that shows real promise to a full scale solution being used across the country.


This role will work alongside the Program Director and report to the Head of Product and is based in San Francisco, CA.


Core competencies

The ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable to change: knowing when to move or change direction and remain a clear and effective decision-maker for their team.

The right candidate will be an expert at understanding multiple perspectives (users, partners, leadership and funders) and seeing the bigger picture. They will understand the use of technology and be able to find opportunities where technology can not just improve but radically transform the delivery of public services.


In this position you will:

  • Define, explain and iterate a product vision that is compelling to your users, team and stakeholders
  • Work in partnership with the program team to align the product vision with the program and the organization's larger objectives, vision and goals
  • Create a clear and compelling strategy for the product that the team can align around: define product metrics, create roadmaps, and scope/prioritize experiments and features that prove impact.
  • Negotiate with and influence external partners, stakeholders and customers successfully - communicating context, strategy and decisions clearly and effectively.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver several early stage products and iteratively improve them through several delivery cycles
  • Manage new feature development, from working with designers on user flows to translating designs into user-stories to overseeing quality assurance.
  • Lead processes and ensure the team stays on task and happily working towards product goals.
  • Create and encourage a culture of initiative, flexibility and responsiveness, mobilising the team to respond swiftly to changing priorities.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and improvement and knowledge sharing inside the team and across the organization.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of product development experience with increasing responsibility, some in government or similar institutions.
  • Experience leading more than one large scale product or service through to successful delivery.
  • Proven ability to lead high quality product development using an agile methodology - iteratively improving products through delivery cycles.
  • Proven ability to interpret and leverage user research, user testing, and data analytics to make and validate product decisions.
  • Strong product judgement - knowing when to prototype and when to code, when to experiment and when to change direction.
  • A passion for our mission of making government services better for people who need them
  • Ability to travel estimated at 15%.
Sr. Product Manager - Integrated Benefits

Code for America builds technology to help government services work for the people who need them most by using data-driven, user-centered, and iterative approach to building technology. We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead a product for people to access the social safety net in multiple states across the country. This candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team through the development of a pilot product to demonstrate how technology can transform access to benefits and show partners and stakeholders what is possible.


By being flexible and adaptable to change, the Senior Product Manager will know when to move or change direction and remain a clear and effective decision-maker for their team.


In understanding multiple perspectives (users, partners, leadership and funders) and seeing the bigger picture, the Senior Product Manager will understand the use of technology and be able to identify opportunities where technology can not just improve but radically transform the delivery of public services.

This role will work alongside the Program Director and report to the Head of Product and is based in San Francisco, CA.


In this position you will:
