Position Title: Miami Climate Alliance Coordinator


Reports to: Steering Committee Chair

Position Classification: Full-time independent contractor

Salary Range: $49,200-$53,200

Estimated Hours: 40 hours/week

General Description: South Florida is one of the most at-risk regions in the world for climate change impacts. Since its creation in 2015, the Miami Climate Alliance has built urgency, power, and cohesion around climate change and sea level rise by achieving significant policy wins and working to establish a model for just, equitable, and resilient communities. Our principles and priorities are as follows: 1) We are action-oriented – focused on solutions addressing causes and effects of climate change; 2) We are a dynamic network of individuals and organizations working toward equity and climate justice; 3) We are locally-focused on tangible wins for people and the natural and built environment; 4) We are informed by peer-reviewed climate science, our direct experience, and documented and projected impacts in our region; 5) We are committed to democratic governance, operational transparency, and open data sharing.


Responsibilities:

  • Compose and develop messaging, design, and update relevant and tailored content for a variety of audiences in the website, fundraising appeals, press releases, storyline opportunities, newsletters, social media, etc

  • Design, produce, and update flyers, brochures, and other materials related to the marketing of programs, events, and other Miami Climate Alliance work

  • Serve as "historian" of the Miami Climate Alliance, documenting workshops, trainings, summits, events by photo and/or video. Maintain organizational photo, video, and print archive, including media coverage

  • Plan regular open invitation organizing meetings and other sponsored events, including coordinating logistics, food, agendas, space, materials, and speakers

  • Organize logistics for and actively participate in member-development activities that support the organization, such as trainings and retreats

  • Collaborate with steering committee on community inclusion in open invitation organizing meetings, including participant recruitment and retention strategies

  • Track, record, and organize participant information and materials related to participant data and attendance; coordinates with working groups and standing committees to build outreach database

  • Maintain and organize data, records, email list


Other:

  • Participate in strategic planning as necessary

  • Foster and support organization-wide collaboration and communication

  • Travel locally for project activities, as needed

  • Support the overall mission and values of the Miami Climate Alliance


Requirements:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate project needs.


Education, Knowledge, & Experience:

  • Educational: Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university with 3-5 years of communications and/or marketing experience, or 5+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Interest in and a baseline knowledge of climate change.

  • Interest in and a baseline knowledge of racial and social justice issues impacting local communities.


Skills:

  • Computer skills required: (Graphic Design Software; Website Maintenance; Wordpress; Mailchimp or other CRM experience; Social Media Marketing; Microsoft Office)

  • Must be able to maintain clear, timely and accurate records

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, punctuality, and organizational skills

  • Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written; bilingual (Spanish or Haitian Creole) preferred.

  • Possesses and demonstrates cultural sensitivity.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as being a self-starter who can work independently.

  • Strong attention to detail; ability multitask and work within a deadline-driven environment.
