Job Summary
The Community Organizer will assist CCF in carrying out a strategy designed to expand the number of CCF program participants and the number of supporters engaged in our advocacy campaigns through community meetings, advocacy training recruitment, mobilization, campaign coordination and leadership development. We are developing a new advocacy training program for women with criminal justice involvement. The advocacy training program will combine media training, broad issue-based education, and the fundamentals of policy advocacy. Our policy advocacy work primarily focuses on the restoration of Pell Grants at the federal level and is paired with relevant issue-based campaigns like #CLOSErikers and Ban the Box at the state and city level. The ideal candidate has two years community organizing experience, exceptional interpersonal skills, strong computer skills, and familiarity with on- and offline social networking tools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit, organize and mobilize CCF students and community members to participate in the advocacy training program, events, and actions that support CCF's policy advocacy platform.
- Help to prepare and disseminate policy advocacy documents including fact sheets, action alerts and outreach materials.
- Maintain databases specific to partner organizations, advocacy campaigns, elected officials, and relevant legislation, as well as community members interested in mobilization efforts.
- Provide on-site support to the Senior Associate of Policy & Advocacy, including but not limited to helping to coordinate the advocacy training program, attending coalition meetings, and scheduling legislative visits.
- Edit and disseminate CCF newsletter to students regarding programs, networking opportunities, and advocacy opportunities.
- Represent CCF at various events.
- Assist with other administrative or clerical tasks as needed.
Core Competencies/Qualifications:
- 2 years of community organizing, outreach, and mobilization experience. Familiarity with programs associated with higher education for underserved populations is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of and experience with federal, state and local public policies affecting women in reentry and the agencies that serve them.
- Demonstrated ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build effective collaborative relationships, both internal and external.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend events is required.
