Director of Human Resources and Finance

 

WIN Minnesota seeks a Director of Human Resources and Finance to ensure the continued growth and strength of the most sophisticated state-based progressive political organizations in the country. The best candidates will have a demonstrated passion for progressive change and ability to handle several projects at once in conjunction with the necessary skills.

WIN Minnesota is an alliance of donors supporting the nation's most powerful and effective state-based progressive, political coalition. WIN Minnesota advises and educates individual and institutional donors about the strategy and plans needed to create progressive change in Minnesota at the ballot box and beyond.

WIN Minnesota works closely with national and in-state allied groups to develop, fund, and implement a unified, strategic electoral plan each two-year cycle while also building capacity at the full range of progressive organizations to create the conditions for progressive policy and electoral wins. The legal entities it works with include 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 501(c)(5) organizations and state and federal PACs.

Based out of St. Paul, Minnesota, the Human Resources and Finance will work directly with the Executive Director of WIN Minnesota and leaders of organizations it supports to manage human resources and finances needs for these organizations. This position could be part-time or full-time depending on the skills and experiences of the applicant.

 

Responsibilities Include:

·       Managing the QuickBooks files for WIN Minnesota and three other small non-profits that share an office

·       Managing relationships with an outside payroll processor and accountants who complete and prepare their tax returns and audits

·       Create operations and multi-level program budgets in conjunction with organizational leaders and track progress on these budgets

·       Track spending and anticipate financial needs of organizations in relation to those budgets

·       Implement and adjust various benefit programs including insurance and retirement plans

·       Ensure completion of employment paperwork and adjust in connection with payroll processor

·       Pay and send invoices

·       Assist with creation of and provide administrative support for new organizations to fill gaps and advise on their legal structures

 

Qualifications and Skills:

         A commitment to progressive change via electoral and policy change 

         Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software as well as spreadsheet software

         Familiarity with (but not necessarily actively managed) payroll processing

         Experience creating organizational budgets

         Organized with an ability to exercise discretion with sensitive information

         Level of comfort managing outside vendors (accounting, payroll, tax preparation, and legal)


 

Types of Person We are Seeking:

We are open to a range of possible methods of structuring this role and as a result there are two types of people we are considering as the bookends of the range. People in the middle of these ends are also strong possible candidates. Here are the two bookends:

·       Someone with limited and familiarity with these skills but with a strong willingness to learn and grow into this role who would likely work full-time.

·       Someone with a lot of experience with these skills who would likely work part-time.

 

Compensation: We are open to considering multiple possible arrangements for this position from part-time to full-time based on the needs of person hired and our needs. As a result, compensation ranges vary widely. Compensation will include a retirement plan, paid vacation, and benefits.
