Organization Overview

Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate. The Community Outreach Group (COG) is a part of Planned Parenthood, but a separate organization that supports Planned Parenthood with electoral, advocacy, and other campaigns.  COG is a progressive organization that specializes in door-to-door paid canvass programs and runs progressive campaigns with its core values of inclusiveness, empowerment, sustainability, and resourcefulness at the center of its work.

General Description

COG is seeking a Canvass Manager to start work on a large scale paid field program in Minneapolis-St. Paul Canvass.  The program will operate in key regions and work to encourage voters to vote, engage community members in conversations about the future, and reproductive health.  As a Canvass Manager, you will hold responsibility for the day-to-day management of the canvass office, including taking primary responsibility for meeting goals, managing staff, payroll, recruitment, training, turf, reporting, and quality control. Some of these duties will be delegated to supporting staff.

This is a mid-level role. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage a team of 4 Deputy Canvass Managers and hourly employees to execute a campaign

  • Collaborate with field leadership to develop and implement all components of a strategic canvassing operation in a key metropolitan area

  • Create a canvassing plan to break down campaign-wide goals into daily and weekly benchmarks

  • Oversee a budget to support the payroll and operations of your office

  • Recruit, train, and supervise canvassers in each area

  • Analyze daily and weekly reports to track progress to goals and implement rigorous quality control measures.

  • Communicate and coordinate regularly with client and/or partners



Qualifications

Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to progressive causes

  • Ability to work 10am – 9pm Monday – Friday, 11am – 8pm Saturdays, and some Sundays plus additional hours as needed

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort meeting and talking with new people

  • Effective communicator face-to-face and in writing

  • Familiarity with advocacy or electoral campaigns, and the use of data to set goals and measure progress

  • Prior staff or volunteer management experience

  • Experience in leading canvasses as a volunteer leader, organizer, or canvass management staff

  • Has set goals and deadlines for other people, and helped them meet those goals or deadlines

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality (in handling of HR documents)


We especially encourage applications from people who bring some of these additional skills or experiences:

  • Directly-related experience in the same type of campaign or program

  • Has strong ties in the city in which you are applying to work

  • Brings some knowledge of or experience in reproductive health issues

  • Has lead trainings or facilitated workshops

  • Knows how to use the VAN voter database software (strongly preferred)

  • Experience with hiring and paid staff recruitment

  • Experience managing logistics or office operations


There is no formal education requirement for this position.

Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt, mid-level position with the Community Outreach Group, with an annual base salary between $48,000 - $60,000 depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.  Some funds for relocation and short-term housing assistance are available, depending on distance and length of employment contract.

Full-time exempt employees are also eligible for a cell phone reimbursement up to $75/month, excellent employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance
