THE ORGANIZATION
One Colorado is a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to securing protections and opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Coloradans and their families. Our vision is a fair and just Colorado.
One Colorado is comprised of three organizations: One Colorado Education Fund, a 501(c)3 that leads the organization's public education and awareness efforts; One Colorado, a 501(c)4 that leads the organization's lobbying and advocacy efforts; and One Colorado PAC, a state political committee that supports the organization's political endorsements.
THE OPPORTUNITY
One Colorado is seeking a talented Development Director with a proven record of success to lead the organization's ongoing fundraising efforts, implement creative strategies for expanding organizational revenue streams, develop strong relationships within the organization and external audiences, manage staff and interns to support the organization's fundraising efforts, support the fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, and solicit high-level individual, corporate and foundation prospects. As a statewide organization, a critical component of the work will be to lead expansion of our donor base outside the Denver Metro area.
The Development Director will work in collaboration with other team members and partner organizations to create a comprehensive organizational development plan to raise more than $1.2 million to support our growing team and programs.
Ideal candidates must be passionate about work for fairness and equality for the LGBTQ community, including a lens for racial, economic and transgender justice.
THE POSITION
Specifically, the Development Director will own One Colorado's development strategy, with specific tasks and goals related to three primary focus areas:
Individual, Corporate, and Foundation Fundraising (50%)
Develop and grow our individual donor base by managing our annual giving campaign and cultivating major gifts
Expand the donor base outside of the Denver-metro area
Cultivate and nurture donor relationships
Track and maintain detailed records of all former, current, and prospective major donors
Develop a comprehensive and actionable plan for annual cultivation of foundation and corporate donors, which includes grant writing and tracking
Identify and write grant proposals to corporate, foundation, and government funders
Strategy, Planning, and Budget Oversight (30%)
Provide day-to-day management of development activities with effective leadership and mentoring of staff
Develop short- and long-term strategic goals for the department, including timelines and budget, assessing areas for growth and providing leadership in the launch of new initiatives
Establish and monitor revenue goals for each fundraising area
Develop the organization's annual report and other program materials
Staff, Board, and Committee Management (20%)
Manage fundraising and event efforts of the One Colorado staff and Board of Directors
Manage development team staff to ensure fundraising targets are achieved
Work with the development committee and all board members to ensure that achieve their fundraising commitment
QUALIFICATIONS
3-5 years of fundraising experience
Proven track record of achieving revenue targets of over $1 million annually
Proven management and leadership capabilities
Experience working with senior level executives and foundation staff
High energy, positive, can-do attitude, flexible, with strong attention to detail and a high degree of initiative and follow-up
Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
Demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough understanding of strategic development
Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage a diverse donor portfolio
Proven record of building partnerships
Strong event planning skills
Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base
Strong computer skills and knowledge of fundraising databases
Familiarity with nonprofit legal structures of 501(c)3s and 501(c)4s
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We seek an enthusiastic self-starter with high energy and a commitment to social justice. He/she/they must be independent and easily adapt to a fast-paced environment. This person must be flexible, resourceful and creative. This person will be capable of taking responsibility for specific goals and measurable outcomes within designated time frames and will be able to coordinate and complete organizational initiatives.
The successful candidate will have fundraising and management experience. The successful candidate will have exceptional "people skills" that will be used to work effectively with colleagues, partner organizations, and volunteers. The candidate will have a passionate work ethic that inspires others to give and inspires colleagues and board members to fundraise.
Candidates will also have the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including weekends and evening hours and travel in-state 5-10 days/month.
