Communications Associate Job Description
Are you passionate about racial, economic, and reproductive justice? Do you eat the news for breakfast and take to social media when you see injustice? If so, you should consider joining our team.
ConwayStrategic is seeking a Program Associate to join our expert team and assist with media relations, public affairs, and issue advocacy campaigns for progressive causes, especially reproductive rights, health, and justice. The successful candidate should have work experience in communications; an interest in media relations, digital strategies, and social media; and strong research and writing skills.
Client relations and support:
· Assist in providing client services for communications work, including:
o Support earned media work, including:
§ build and update media lists and manage a media database of key journalists.
§ monitor and track media placements and social media coverage of relevant issues for a range of clients; compile and distribute online clips daily.
§ write pitches and possibly conduct reporter outreach,
§ assist other team members in organizing media briefings, teleconferences, and other events.
o Write and eventually manage social media, web content, and other media responses as needed.
o Learn and help manage back-end websites for clients.
o Manage, clean and vet email list.
o Help create graphics for social media and other needs.
· Organize and write weekly or monthly updates and reports for selected clients.
· Backstop and assist principals in preparing for and attending meetings; provide follow up as needed; includes policy, coalition, communications meetings and new business pitches.
· Assist in executing events as needed.
· Conduct online research and reporting on various client-related topics as needed
Other:
· Assist with client reporting and grant reporting as needed.
· Help manage and organize client lists and agency lists.
· Help develop new business pitches and proposals.
· Proof and format documents.
· Other tasks and client work as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Must have at least 1-2 years of workplace experience, preferably working in media and/or communications; experience working on advocacy campaigns or with non-profit organizations a plus.
- Strong knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; eagerness to learn other software.
- Comfort with a range of software, such as databases and online project management systems.
- Proven and highly effective organizational and communication (both written and oral) skills.
- Ability to multitask and shift priorities; aptitude for working under tight deadlines.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-based, participatory environment as well as work autonomously; good sense of humor a plus.
- Graphic design or video editing experience a plus.
- Commitment to, knowledge about, and passion for political and cultural issues related to women's issues and reproductive justice. Comfort with and commitment to working with a racially diverse staff.
Details:
· Location — Washington, DC.
· Salary — $44 – 52,000, commensurate with experience.
