DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Position Summary
Run for Something recruits and supports young progressives running for local political office in the United States. Since launching in January 2017, we have recruited more than 28,000 potential political candidates; endorsed more than 600; and have more than 200 wins. We are an ambitious, hungry team seeking to change the face of politics in America. As the Director of Operations, you will play a pivotal role in making that happen by helping to keep the organization and its staff on track and on schedule. You'll report directly to the Co-Founder/Chief Program and Recruitment Officer and manage an Operations Associate. You'll also work directly with staff throughout the organization to manage finances, internal operations, and build sustainable processes that can serve as a model and resource for other organizations in our network.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, demonstrate superb judgment, and be passionate about creatively solving problems. No task will be too big or small to be done well.

Responsibilities
Financial Management
  • Manage day-to-day budgeting and organizational health
  • Lead an annual audit
  • Prepare annual tax returns
  • Lead and manage annual budgeting and planning process
  • Manage relationship with accountant
Administration and Compliance
  • Manage relationship with lawyers and compliance firm
  • Ensure organization is in compliance with all state and local regulations for program-related work as well as fundraising and events.
  • Manage contracts with external partners/vendors
Human Resources
  • Continue to develop and improve internal policies
  • Lead on administering and managing employee benefits
  • Lead staff recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes
  • Lead on staff training, professional development, and performance reviews.
Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Commitment to the mission of the organization
  • Scrappy, with the ability to take on big tasks with limited resources
  • Detail-oriented
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operations metrics
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the ins and outs of campaign finance law and compliance regulations (i.e. a lot of esoteric legal bullshit)
  • Mindset that no task is too small
  • A natural sense of curiosity

  • Work Environment
  • This is a remote position that can be based anywhere in the continental United States. You should be prepared to east coast hours and work from home or in a professional office environment as the organization evolves.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 a year, commensurate with experience. RFS offers health insurance, dental, vision, a professional development stipend, and unlimited paid time off.
