Finance Director, Texas Democratic Party
based in Austin, TX
The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising for the State Party. They must understand how to create a fundraising plan that meets the immediate funding needs, while cultivating long-term donors to sustain an organization, during and in-between election cycles. They direct the finance staff and Party in all fundraising activities. They should be skilled in managing multiple, competing for priorities simultaneously with a sharp focus on details. They must be a self-starter, have excellent relational skills and be unafraid to make the ask.
The Finance Director is a senior member of the staff and will report to the Executive Director, but works closely with the Chair, Finance Chair, and digital and political departments. Salary is commensurate with experience and we offer health care and dental coverage.
Responsibilities
The Finance Director is responsible for planning, implementing and tracking all the revenue streams.
DUTIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
- Develop a finance plan and finance department budget that includes, events, direct mail, digital, sustaining donors, call time, and major donor cultivation.
- Maintain and expand the sustaining donor/member program.
- Work with staff, consultants, and vendors on an aggressive fundraising strategy, including implementing an annual fundraising calendar.
- Develop and manage strategies geared towards the donor lifecycle and journey as it relates to the acquisition, onboarding, cultivation/engagement and retention from donors
- Work with the Executive Director and Comptroller to track income and adjust goals, as needed.
- Direct teams of staff, interns, and volunteers in the planning and execution of events and other fundraising tactics.
- Direct the operations for yearly fundraisers, dinners and state convention fundraisers.
- Acting as a point of contact for prospective and committed event sponsors. This includes following up on unanswered solicitations, confirming guests, and securing payment.
- Drafting fundraising and event communications, this includes but is not limited to multiple weekly fundraising emails, donor reports, electoral reports, social media communications, and direct mail.
- Acting as a point of contact for guest speakers, providing briefing documents and talking points, and attending to other special requests.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Minimum of 4 years working in political and/or advocacy fundraising
- A commitment to Democratic Party values.
- Experience in raising corporate, federal and unlimited state dollars.
- Proficiency in NGP software.
- Proven track record of developing, tracking, and maintaining donor relations.
- Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, both high and low dollar.
- Ability to identify, cultivate and make large funding requests of major donors
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- A tenacious drive to unearth new strategies to cultivate new donors.
- A friendly and professional demeanor.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising campaigns.
- Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes, and results-oriented culture.
- Must be a team player and enjoy an environment where everyone pitches in and help achieve the organizational goals.
