National Campaigns Director
Develop and lead national issue campaigns to persuade manufacturers and retailers to eliminate toxic chemicals from use in food packaging, processing, and preparation. Grow grassroots leadership among those most vulnerable, including pregnant women, children, communities of color, and lower income consumers. Provide support over time to related campaigns for safe drinking water and toxic-free consumer products.
What You'll Do: Building on our 15+ year history of advancing public policy and market-based solutions to protect people from toxic chemicals, you will lead development and execution of market-based campaigns focused on national brands. This includes all aspects of campaign development and management, coalition engagement, and execution of appropriate tactics to persuade decision-makers. In the near term, you'll help lead our Food Fight! Campaign to eliminate toxic chemicals from food processing and packaging (learn more at www.KleanUpKraft.org). Over time, and with input from our leadership team, you'll develop additional campaigns to achieve our broad environmental public health goals.
Who We Need: We're looking for someone who knows how to, and has had proven success at, leading issue-campaigns, with a preference for experience in executing market-based campaigns to drive corporate change. You know how herd cats and work collaboratively, yet can also roll up your sleeves and complete tasks on your own. You are comfortable engaging corporate leaders and working in partnership with industry leaders willing to model good. In addition to having a passion for our work and topic areas, you are committed to progressive values and social change, and share our commitment to focusing on reducing the environmental and health inequities from exposures to toxic chemicals faced by minority or low-income communities.
Major Responsibilities:
· Campaign Planning & Development – Develop and execute nationally significant and scientifically grounded campaigns to win action on toxic chemicals in water, food and products.
· Grassroots Campaigning – Apply a variety of public campaign tactics including grassroots media actions to generate consumer pressure on corporate decision makers.
· Leadership Development – Recruit, develop, and engage grassroots leaders among affected communities as public voices for positive change.
· Coalition Building – Nurture existing partner relations to leverage campaign work and grow the coalition to advance shared priorities.
· Corporate Engagement – Assist and coordinate with other teams members responsible for research, communications, and negotiations to engage and persuade business leaders.
Qualifications:
· Minimum five years professional experience and proven success in issue campaign organizing, management, and leadership, preferably with market campaigns at a national scale
· Necessary skills include: outstanding oral and written communication abilities; excellent people skills; organizing acumen and comfort in working with health-impacted individuals and communities; coalition management; understanding of the drivers of corporate decision making; capacity to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations; problem-solving and analytical skills; and strong facilitation skills
· Strongly self-motivated and directed, with the capacity to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations.
· Ability to understand the science underlying our campaign asks and comfort with translating it to a lay audience.
· Experience with market-based campaigns and driving corporate change is preferred, but candidates without issue campaign experience will be considered.
· A bachelors or higher degree is strongly preferred, but relevant experience and proven success can be substituted.

In a state known as "vacationland," you'll find hiking, biking, skiing, boating, and beautiful beaches are all close by. It's your choice.
Salary: Mid-60s, adjusted for experience over the minimum requirements and with some adjustment possible for those located in more expensive locations.
