Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee's mission is to win Democratic majorities and build Democratic power in state legislatures.

 

In the 2018 cycle, Democrats flipped over 400 state legislative seats and gained eight new Democratic majorities. This is the most chambers flipped since the 2006 cycle, and the most seats flipped by Democrats in a generation. Nearly 1,250 of the Democrats elected to their state legislatures in 2018 were women, and more than 900 were candidates of color.

 

As the only organization exclusively committed to electing Democrats to state legislatures all over the country, the DLCC has been working with state legislative leaders for over two decades to invest strategically in state programs and build the Democratic Party from the ground up.

 

Data and Analytics Assistant

As a member of the Data Department, the Data and Analytics Assistant will directly support the department's mission - to provide strategic analysis to support data-driven decision making at the DLCC.

 

The Data and Analytics Assistant reports to the National Data & Analytics Director and is based in Washington, DC.

 

The Data and Analytics Assistant is expected to model the values of the DLCC:

Responsibilities:

 

  • Analyze election results and voter data in order to inform future decisions.
  • Create intuitive data visualizations using a variety of publicly available and proprietary data.
  • Assist in automating reporting processes and data collection where possible.
  • Assist the data team with any ad hoc data requests from other departments or caucuses as necessary.
  • Provide back-up support to the front desk, including covering the phones, greeting guests, and event set up, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Outcomes:

  • All data projects are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Analyses from the data department are communicated to other departments and state legislative caucuses in a clear and concise manner.
  • Information shared internally and externally is accurate.
  • The DLCC's Data & Analytics Department continues to be the leader of data and analysis at the state legislative level, and helps caucuses run effective campaigns and win elections.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar office-setting.
  • Experience with Excel and/or Google Sheets, including writing complex formulas (such as VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIF, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SQL.
  • Familiarity with a programming language such as Python or R.
  • Experience with GIS software a plus.
  • Experience with VAN/VoteBuilder a plus
  • Self-motivation and interest to learn new technical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and ask questions.

 

Requirements:

Essential functions of the role of Data and Analytics Assistant include:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate using the telephone, email, and in person with stakeholders.
  • This position may require the employee to periodically travel across Washington, D.C. to attend events, meetings, and conferences offsite.

 

How to Apply:

Salary for the Data and Analytics Assistant position is $45,000-50,000 on an annualized basis commensurate with experience. In addition, the DLCC offers a generous benefit package, including fully paid health/vision/dental insurance, an up to 6% retirement contribution, transit and FSA subsidies, and more.
