Position Title: Deputy Director, Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign
Classification: Exempt, full-time
Reports To: Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign Director
Location: Washington, D.C. headquarters
Background
The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign (ARDC) is comprised of a coalition of non-profit organizations working to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas development. The ARDC is seeking an experienced, strategic and innovative campaigner to help protect this iconic landscape and the way of life of indigenous peoples who depend on it. The Deputy Director will assist the Director in the day to day operations of the campaign with a major focus on field, outreach and external communications. The Deputy Director should be someone who thrives on collaboration and coalition work and is able to operate in fast -paced environment with the capacity to solve problems creatively.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Lead field and outreach elements of campaign including strategic deployment of resources, development of joint tactics and on the ground communications to support campaign goals.· Convene regular meetings of coalition and partner group field leads.· Execute on major campaign initiatives and projects including fly-ins, rallies and other events.· Increase public awareness of issue through strategic communications; working closely with coalition communications staff and campaign consultants.· Recruit, forge alliances, and serve as a liaison to a diverse set of new constituencies.· Oversee internal coalition communication tools, assist with outside vendors, and event planning.· Track the activities, needs and meetings for multiple coalition sub-teams, seeking opportunities for cross-team collaboration.· Create web, digital content, and other campaign materials as appropriate.· Fill in for Director as appropriate on calls or in meetings and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of work experience, campaign, Capitol Hill, Administration or non-profit experience a plus.
- Understanding of federal legislative process.
- Bachelor's degree required, major in public policy, communications, marketing, or environmental policy preferred.
- Passion for supporting indigenous rights, wildlife and land conservation, and combating climate change.
- Ability to work with diverse constituencies and willingness to reach out to non-traditional potential allies.
- Interest in working with a broad coalition consisting of diverse organizations; experience working with political campaigns, human rights, indigenous peoples, coalitions, or wildlife conservation a plus.
- Interest in advancing new ways to influence public opinion and policy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of using social media platforms for advocacy engagement.
- Desire and ability to work in teams and pitch in where and when needed.
- Strong and cheerful work ethic.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
