Communications and Policy Associate
Justice Democrats (PAC) and Organize for Justice (501c4) are helping to usher in the next generation of diverse, working class leaders who will fight to transform our democracy and economy. In the past year, we have helped pushed progressive policies on the national agenda, elevating concerns about the climate crisis, attacks on immigrants, the corporate takeover of our economy and democracy, and other big ideas to the frontpages of America's newspapers and the top of the national legislative docket.
Role
The Communications and Policy Associate works alongside the Communications Director to advance progressive policies in the national conversation. You will work to identify opportunities and build relationships with organizational partners, elected officials, and candidates in order to advance a suite of issues including a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, ending mass incarceration and deportation, free college, tackling inequality, and democracy reform through the 2020 election cycle. You will create and contribute to policy and communications materials such as briefings, social media kits, op-eds, press releases, talking points and digital content (including video).
Candidates will be asked to submit a resume and cover letter and participate in a skills test.
Salary range $55-65,000 commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
Craft written materials related to progressive policy priorities, as outlined above
Conduct outreach and work alongside organizations, partners, elected officials, and candidates to advance progressive policy priorities
Develop and execute communications strategies in support of our policy and political work
Organize private and public briefings with policy experts
Work alongside a team to produce and maintain digital content, including issue campaigns and holding elected leaders accountable to our platform
Identify and execute rapid response opportunities
Helping manage incoming press inquiries and building relationships with reporters
Monitor news developments on television, print, and digital media
Great to have, but not necessary: Create and/or participate in video content
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience working in communications, policy, or digital campaign work and/or digital video content
Experience in writing policy and communications materials such as briefings, talking points, press releases
Experience working in coalition with partner organizations
Understanding of progressive political ecosystem and avid follower of political news media
Strategic approach to work
Experience with social media
Appreciation of organizational voice, tone and brand
Attention to detail
A collaborative, self-motivated individual with the flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of assignments
Great to have, but not necessary: Ability to produce or edit videos and familiarity with Youtube political content
Location
Strong preference for Washington DC or New York City, though candidates in other cities will be considered.
Salary Range and Benefits
$55-65k commensurate with experience
