About the Organizer

Working Families Party is searching for an Organizer who will help build our grassroots base and organizing operation in Rhode Island in support of our legislative, policy & electoral campaigns. The Organizer will help drive a program to recruit and support members and volunteer leaders to advance the values of working people

This position is supervised by the RI Organizing Director and includes local and national professional development opportunities in management, organizing, communications, electoral campaigns, issue campaigns and fundraising.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with individual activists, members, and leaders
  • Help grow the base of support our issue and electoral priorities 
  • Assist in organizing opportunities for grassroots engagement on issue campaigns and in movement building work
  • Interface with candidates and political campaigns about member engagement
  • Manage interns participating in our campaigns and develop their skills
  • Work with partners to staff joint volunteer activities/actions
  • Conduct outreach to low-wage workers, faith and community leaders, small business owners, and allied advocates to get them to become spokespeople for our campaigns
  • Participate in fundraising, including staffing some events, like House Parties
  • Support State Committee, State Director, and Organizing Director with research, logistics, and the creation of various materials
  • Manage contact lists and maintain up to date records in our database
  • Assist in generating and sharing digital content
  • Work closely with any paid or volunteer canvass

Requirements

  • A passion and commitment to social, economic, and racial justice
  • Demonstrated ability to engage activists around a cause
  • Ability to communicate compellingly about WFP's work and inspire others to action
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Drive and tenacity to advance our mission and values
  • Ability to work independently
  • Attention to detail 
  • Driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness for regular in-state travel
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus

Compensation

Salary range for this position is $34,000-44,000 depending on experience. A competitive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance and matching contributions into a 401(k) retirement plan, plus paid holidays, vacation, and sick time. Opportunities for advancement, travel, and additional training are available.
