The Mission: Higher Ground Labs is a start-up accelerator and venture fund for progressive, political technology. Founded by Obama alumni Shomik Dutta and Betsy Hoover — and backed by investors like Reid Hoffman, Ron Conway, and Chris Sacca — HGL has invested in 36 companies, many of which have become integral components of the progressive political tech ecosystem. In 2018, our companies reached 5,000 campaigns and 50 million voters. Our 2020 goals are even more ambitious. But impacting elections and building long-term progressive infrastructure does not happen overnight. Our work centers around the thoughtful deployment of for-profit capital, private-sector business rigor, and user-centric innovation. We are growing and need your help!
The Role: HGL is hiring a Marketing Associate. This person will own and execute all outbound communication streams -- social media, email newsletters, website and blog, and stakeholder communications. This role will work closely with our investments and political teams, owning some of the most critical aspects of our success. The role will focus on these key functions:
Social media, email program, webinars, website and blog 30%
Stakeholder and list management 30%
Stakeholder Communications 20%
Brand management 20%
The Fit: We are a start-up ourselves, operating in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment. Team members at HGL wear multiple hats, collaborate closely, and have the autonomy to pursue new ideas. We are seeking a self-starter who has a strong design or brand marketing background. This person should be creative, a strong team player, and hungry to grow the space broadly. The ideal candidate is hungry for growth opportunities and thrives when given responsibility. A good fit would have:
At least 2 years of marketing, design or social media experience
Familiarity with Wordpress and Mailchimp
A portfolio of designed assets (if applicable) and/or a writing sample
Optimism about the role that technology can play in bettering our politics
Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 (commensurate with experience and location) / year + benefits
Location: San Francisco or Los Angeles or Chicago
