MoveOn is a diverse and vibrant community of millions of people working together to create progressive change in America. We are an innovative campaigning organization that supports people throughout the country to take action through driving impactful campaigns that influence the behavior of people and institutions, the outcomes of elections, and expand the realities of what's possible. We organize to challenge entrenched power, while pursuing economic, racial, and social justice and a vision of a country in which everyone can thrive.
MoveOn has a particularly important role to play in the Trump era. We are working to defeat Donald Trump and the GOP in 2020 by building a powerful, multiracial, and economic populist movement that will give voters something to vote for, not just against—and we're also working to defend communities that are on the front lines of Trump and GOP attacks, including immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and women. In service of that mission, in 2020 and beyond, MoveOn will drive impactful, movement-connected, multichannel, nimble campaigns aimed at impact.
The 2020 Content Distribution Manager will take lead on distributing MoveOn's online videos, graphics, and other creative content to key audiences via social media, paid ad buys, and other digital promotion to help defeat Trump and the GOP in November. This position will report to the Creative Lab Director, with close consultation from the Director of Social Media, as well as MoveOn's entire editorial team and co-production partners.
Responsibilities:
Work with MoveOn's Director of Social Media, Creative Lab team, and co-production partners to design and coordinate our content distribution strategy for the November elections
Maximize viewership for MoveOn's videos and other content using social media, email, collaboration with influencers, search, and other digital promotion strategies, with a focus on reaching key electoral audiences
Draft high-performing share text copy and publish videos, graphics, and other creative assets to MoveOn's social media platforms, using our internal scheduling and tracking systems
Generate content for social media posts, including creating graphics in coordination with our graphics production firm, distributing photos from MoveOn events, creating multimedia Twitter threads, and clipping real-time videos for quick distribution
Oversee paid online distribution for our videos, working in concert with MoveOn's Director of Social Media, video production team, co-production partners, and ad buyers
Oversee compliance reporting for the video production team
Report distribution data to MoveOn team members and co-production partners
Communicate on a daily basis with co-production partners and other key allies and organizations
Coordinate with MoveOn staff to further develop our network of allied pages/accounts that want to share MoveOn videos with their audiences
Innovate, experiment, and learn by working with our analysis and audience development staff to run tests that help identify what makes content more shareable and impactful
Keep up to date on political news stories and trends, as well as on evolving best practices for engaging with social media platforms
Incorporate feedback from supervisor and colleagues and follow organizational approval processes
Use our communication channels, including social media and email services, in service of the position's goals
Be prepared for intensive work through the election season, while maintaining a work-life balance; time management is key—since this is an election period, this isn't a job that will fit neatly within traditional business hours
Preferred experience and skills:
5+ years of experience in project management
3+ years of experience in social media content distribution and promotion
3+ years of experience in progressive advocacy, electoral campaigns, or news/digital media
Excellent project management judgment and skills in a fast-paced environment
Mastery of social media best practices and monitoring tools—you'll need to know how to best promote a piece of content across social media platforms and measure its success
Strong political judgment, with a clear understanding of political issues, advocacy campaigns, the progressive movement, and electoral politics
Inclusive, consultative decision-making with demonstrated commitment to listening to team members and changing course when needed based on feedback
Existing relationships with progressive groups, progressive social media accounts, or progressive-leaning social media publishers are useful
Previous video production experience is useful
Deep understanding of and commitment to consistently developing and improving organizational equity; experience implementing equitable practices and culture, with a demonstrated track record of success in this area
High emotional intelligence and experience being emotionally supportive to staff during stressful or difficult periods; ability to act with high integrity, professionalism, low ego, and camaraderie
