Job Description: Deputy Organizing Director
Reports to: Organizing Director
Salary: $5,500/month ($66,000/year), generous benefits package
Start date: February/ March 2020

About the Democratic Party of Wisconsin: For the next four years, Wisconsin state politics will carry an almost unprecedented intensity and level of historical significance. Wisconsin faces a pivotal local and state Supreme Court race in the spring of 2020, will be a – maybe THE – critical swing state in the 2020 presidential election. The 2020 state legislative elections will also shape redistricting in 2021, which will determine the state's political future for a decade to come. In 2022, the state will hold deeply competitive and consequential statewide elections, including for Governor and US Senator.

For the sake of the state's future – and the nation's – the Democratic Party of Wisconsin seeks an intelligent, personable, organized, self-starting individual to join our organizing team.

The Opportunity: As a Deputy Organizing Director, you will build local grassroots teams that will then engage in direct voter contact, volunteer recruitment and volunteer retention. You will be responsible for executing a field program and managing a team of Regional Organizing Directors that work to elect Democrats up & down the ticket by building & maintaining the local volunteer infrastructure necessary for success in the Spring Elections, the November General Elections and beyond.

Job Responsibilities:
• Work to elect all Democrats up and down the ticket.
• In consultation with the DPW Organizing Director, effectively manage, support & coach your Regional team (Regionals, Field Organizers, Fellows & Volunteers) in building local grassroots teams that will then engage in direct voter contact, volunteer recruitment and retention.
• Create a strong progressive presence in communities within your assigned turf.
• Ensure regions are building the local volunteer infrastructure necessary for success in the Spring Elections, November General Elections, and beyond.  Hold all accountable.
• Implement grassroots field tactics, including managing and executing effective activities, such as phone banks and canvasses.
• Meet or exceed metrics based goals for volunteer recruitment & retention as well as direct voter contact.
• Work with the Senior Field Team to develop and maintain a plan to reach underserved populations across Wisconsin.
• Work with the Senior Field Team to develop and maintain Organizing Fellows programs.
• Develop and maintain volunteer and staff-facing training including, but not limited to, webinars, conference calls, Statewide Leadership Conferences, as well as one-pagers, packages and programs as needed.
•  Quickly & effectively address statewide volunteer needs including, but not limited to, outreach to volunteers who approach the DPW through our website and/or other methods, working with Neighborhood Action Teams, coaching county parties on recruitment & retention etc.
• Support for Neighborhood Action Team Actions, including but not limited to: votebuilder, research required for Rapid Response, script and report format creation, training and step-by-step instructions for actions etc.
•  Assist Organizing Director with all event logistics, including surrogate and press needs.
• Work with the Organizing Director on all hiring of Regional Organizing Directors and Field Organizers.
• Responsible for executing the 2020 statewide organizing and outreach programs across Wisconsin.
• Be a representative of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and our policies, including neutrality as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Required):
• Desire to fight for Democratic values and candidates.
• Experience managing a large and diverse organizing team to achieve high goals in high pressure, rapidly changing circumstances such as Get Out the Vote.
• Must be Votebuilder (VAN) & Excel proficient.
• Growth mindset: ability to take and implement feedback.
• Relentlessly goal-oriented: enjoys working toward and achieving ambitious goals; willing to go over, under, around, or through any obstacle that gets in the way of meeting goals.
• Cultural competency: able to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, voters, and volunteers who identify as POCI, and across lines of difference.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills are a must. Namely, can connect with others, motivate & quickly gain trust with volunteers, staff, community members, and coalition partners, including in particular across lines of difference.
• Ability to work long days with irregular hours. You have the capacity and willingness to work long hours during peak season, rolling up your sleeves and geting the work done.

Qualifications (Preferred):
• Previous organizing experience preferred, but not required.
• Applicant should have access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel frequently.
