Development Associate

Reports to: Vice President of Development, YWCA USA


Primary Purpose:  As a YWCA USA Development Associate, you will assist with the design and development of our national fundraising strategy by identifying, helping to secure and manage financial and in-kind support from individuals and institutions through the management of Raiser's Edge and CRM platforms.

Basic Duties: The Development Associate will support the cultivation and stewardship efforts of the YWCA USA's development team to maintain a strong pipeline of individual, corporate, government, and foundation funders. Ideal candidates must have fundraising experience and experience using donor database systems (i.e., Raiser's edge and CRM). The Development Associate will be responsible for organizing events, public engagement opportunities, and linking YWCA associations with fundraising potential. The Development Associate will work with and support the VP of Development; input donations and create financial reports and analysis for the CEO and the development committee of the Board; support planned giving efforts through research; prepare thank you notes and be able to track, document and analyze impact and outcomes as it pertains to the annual fundraising plan. The successful candidate should bring creativity, energy and solid fundraising relations to the work.. This position will largely support our contributed income strategies; be responsible for data and analytics to drive the development strategy; seek sponsors for events; and research and prepare grants. An ideal candidate for this position must hold and be able to express a sincere interest and commitment to the mission of YWCA USA. S/he will maintain relationships with external stakeholders and support the overarching fundraising strategy of the national office.

 

PrimarResponsibilities:

Working in close collaboration with the Vice President of Development, this position will:

  • Help to execute short and long-term strategies for securing individual, corporate, foundation and government financial support to advance initiatives at YWCA USA as well as initiatives at the local level.
  • Develop briefs and materials to equip the Vice President of Development and other senior staff with relevant information in preparation for meetings and discussions.
  • Act as a project manager for special projects including coordinating presentations, disseminating information and coordinating mailings.
  • Understand and establish administrative systems and procedures (i.e., Raiser's Edge, CRM and other IT platforms) to track, record and report; ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all prospect, granting and fundraising communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 1-2 years of impeccable fundraising experience.
  • Experience at Raiser's Edge or similar CRM software.
  • Evaluates return on investment for all initiatives.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must provide excellent customer service and anticipate the needs of the team.
  • Ability to represent YWCA program to forward facing programs.
  • Ability to research and write grants and maintain a grant calendar.
  • Proven organizational abilities, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to prioritize and work effectively on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong editing and proofing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with individuals and customers at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information and address the needs of a diverse group of clients.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to work off-hours as events require.


Professional Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and vendors.
  • Knowledge of administration systems, processes and budgeting.
  • Excellent research, organizational, project management, time management, communication, writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including MS Word, Excel PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work collegially in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change as necessary.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations preferred.
  • Raiser's Edge and/or other related development software preferred. Knowledge of donor tracking software system and reporting.
  • Data driven; analytic skills and capable of preparing internal and external reports.
  • Nonprofit and/or fundraising experience preferred.
  • Highly driven and energetic with ability to work well in a fast-paced result-oriented environment.

     

    Personal Qualifications:

    • The selected candidate must be passionate about the mission and vision of the YWCA. S/he must possess a pleasant attitude, collegial approach and capacity to provide administrative support functions.
    • The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills and will have the interest to work in a creative and innovative environment.
