Summary:
For over 28 years, LGBTQ Victory Fund and LGBTQ Victory Institute have helped to train, support and elect thousands of openly LGBTQ elected officials at every level of government. Our leaders have been catalysts for expanding legal rights for LGBTQ people across the country, and they have transformed our nation's policies and shifted our political landscape towards equality. Today, more than 740 LGBTQ Americans are serving in elected office due to the work of Victory Fund and Victory Institute, including eight members of Congress, two U.S. senators and two governors.
Victory Fund and Victory Institute are seeking a Foundation and Corporate Gifts Officer. Reporting to the VP of Development, the Foundation and Corporate Gifts Officer contributes to the success of the organization by raising funds from foundations, organizations and corporations to support general operating and programmatic needs to help achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals.
The Officer works collaboratively with various teams within the organization, including the development team, senior leadership, program managers and finance staff. In this role, they will handle all aspects of the fundraising cycle including prospecting, outreach, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. They will collaborate with the finance department and program divisions to create budgets and other financial documents; write and review proposals and progress reports for accuracy; and ensure that proposals are successfully submitted and stewarded. Additionally, the officer is responsible for planning and executing several donor stewardship events throughout the year, including a corporate appreciation breakfast during our annual conference.
This individual is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires responding to deadlines, often with short lead times. This position may require the need to periodically work outside of normal business hours (including weekends) to meet grant proposal and reporting deadlines. The Foundation and Corporate Gifts Officer will meet revenue goals as determined by departmental budget.
Essential Functions:
Foundation and corporate giving strategy development, implementation and stewardship:
- Develop and write grant and sponsorship proposals in collaboration with program managers, finance team and board members.
- Project-manage Victory's grant program using timely and appropriate internal and external communications (checklists, reminder messages, proactive problem-solving and proper escalation) to ensure that high-quality grants and reports are submitted on time.
- Proactively research and identify new opportunities for public and private funding and sponsorships and disseminate information about funding opportunities to Victory staff.
- Lead strategy meetings about Victory's foundation and corporate giving strategy.
- Serve as Victory's liaison to granting agencies and corporations, focusing on securing new funding opportunities and nurturing relationships.
- Develop new and innovative ways to incorporate corporate donors into Victory's work, focusing on corporate social responsibility and employee engagement initiatives.
- Develop solicitation materials for corporate giving opportunities, including event and program sponsorships as well as corporate foundation proposals.
- Provide dotted-line oversight of Events Manager and marketing team in fulfillment of sponsorship commitments and preparation of smaller proposals.
- Collaborate with Major Gifts Officers in preparation of family foundation grants, reports and collateral materials.
- Draft and review proposals and progress reports, including project narratives, budget and other supporting documentation, in a timely manner to meet grant deadlines.
- Accurately track and report on fundraising progress and trends/issues relating to foundations, corporations' donors and prospects.
- Maintain all grant information in Every Action and proposal bank/archive.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of donors and prospects by exercising discretion in communicating information and handling departmental records, files, applications, proposals, evaluations and similar confidential materials.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Contribute to building a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
- Honor the rights of our donors through strict adherence to the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Code of Ethics.
- Assist in donor events, meetings and including off-site travel, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated success in securing six-figure grants and stewarding multi-year grants.
- Demonstrated success with grants and sponsorships, including foundation and corporate applications and reporting, and a working knowledge of moves management.
- Excellent project management skills to drive success in managing multiple proposals and reports simultaneously.
- Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals; strong editing skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate the vision, mission and programs of Victory using storytelling.
- Ability to contribute to the development of innovative and creative strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to represent Victory in a consistently positive and professional manner.
- Ability to work well as a strong collaborator in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of the budgeting process.
- Attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint) required; Experience using EveryAction a plus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a 4-year accredited university required.
- Ideal candidate has completed training programs specific to nonprofit/fundraising management; Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of four years of experience with grant development, writing and administration, including successfully closing and renewing grant funding.
- At least four years of successful philanthropy and/or grant writing experience.
- Previous experience working with board volunteers, institutional donors and program and fundraising staff.
Working Conditions:
- Majority of work is performed in a semi-private office setting.
- Must be able to sit at a computer and type for extended periods of time.
- Must be willing to travel and attend conferences on behalf or organization
- Requires flexibility for periodically working outside of normal business hours (including weekends) to meet deadlines associated with grant proposals.
Salary and Benefits:
$55,000–$68,000/year. Please include salary requirements in your materials.
