Statewide Volunteer Director

We specialize in running paid canvass programs, volunteer management, signature collections, membership involvement efforts and campaign management. Kolehouse Strategies' leadership team brings more than 20 years of political strategy experience and is constantly evolving with the tactics being used in today's political climate. We are currently partnered with Fair and Equal Michigan to assist in the petition signature efforts to place an initiative on the Michigan Statewide ballot during this November's Election.

Fair and Equal Michigan is a growing coalition of grassroots citizens, LGBTQ groups, the business and philanthropic sectors, and both sides of the political aisle to finally prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ people. The Campaign has launched a statewide initiative to give the voters of Michigan the opportunity to strengthen the state's Civil Rights Protection Act during this November's Election. The proposed initiative would clarify that the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act's existing prohibitions on discriminatory practices, policies, and customs in the exercise of civil rights prohibits discrimination based upon sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.


Job Description:


The Volunteer Director is responsible for building a team of regional and campus organizers, recruitment, training & coordinating an extensive volunteer base to contribute to the success of Fair and Balanced Michigan's signature efforts. This person must be highly motivated and eager to build the necessary relationships within Michigan's business, academic, non-profit, and cultural organizations. In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator must be organized and willing to travel across Michigan including overnight stays in some instances. Strong communication skills and a passion for Fair and Balanced Michigan's vision are a must.


Responsibilities:


                     Create an all-encompassing plan to develop a statewide staff and network of volunteers.


                     Develop and maintain relationships with supportive organizations in order to activate volunteers across the state.


                     Working with Corporate Partners to develop ways to engage their employers in volunteer opportunities.


                     Recruit, hire, train, and manage a network of motivated volunteer leads across Michigan.


                     Plan, coordinate, and attend meetings in order to build an effective, ongoing organization and to promote participation within supportive organizations.


                     Develop a standardized process for bringing on new volunteers and giving them the tools, they need to be successful.


                     Assist in developing a standardized training for volunteer circulators to ensure proper signature collection.


                     Work with management to coordinate events, sites, and other opportunities for volunteers to circulate petitions.


                     Maintain up-to-date, clear, easily accessible records of volunteers including their contact information and progress with their signature collection efforts.


                     Verify attendance and volunteer participation while reporting numerical and anecdotal feedback to the Director of Operations on a weekly basis.


                     Provide reporting on volunteer program needs, successes, and accomplishments.


                     Manage budget in relation to the volunteer coordination program.


                     Collect and return all completed petition pages for safekeeping on a scheduled basis.

 

Qualifications:

 

                     A minimum of 1 year management experience.


                     Familiar with the initiative process in Michigan and the practice of circulating petitions.


                     Valid Driver's License and consistent access to a dependable vehicle.


                     Works well under pressure and can maintain the necessary hours needed to ensure tasks are completed and volunteer efforts are successful.


                     Must be accountable and have a history of excellent attendance on past campaigns and jobs.


                     Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.


                     Experience using VAN (Voter Activation Network) Software.


                     Experience managing volunteers in at least one statewide election cycle.

 

Compensation:

 

                     Weekly salary of $1,300 per week.

                     Bonuses based on performance of the program.

                     Healthcare plan available after 90 days.

                     Reimbursement of $0.58 per mile driven on the job.
