Organizing Associate (Washington, DC)
Overview
Faith in Public Life seeks an Organizing Associate to play a key role in advancing our advocacy and organizing work on immigration, voting rights, LGBTQ non-discrimination, racial justice, and our various other issues areas. The Organizing Associate reports to the National Campaigns Director, and will be self-motivated, a quick learner, and able to build relationships with faith leaders in key states.
About Faith in Public Life
Faith in Public Life (FPL) and Faith in Public Life Action (FPLAF) (our sister 501c4 organization) are a national network of nearly 50,000 clergy and faith leaders united in the prophetic pursuit of justice and the common good. With staff in four states and growing, we work closely with our members to take strategic moral action that shapes policy both locally and nationally. We believe that faith leaders have unique moral power to influence public debates and build more just and equitable communities.
Responsibilities:
Support the FPL Organizing Department and work directly with the FPL National Campaigns Director on national issue advocacy campaigns, primarily 2020 Census and immigration
Recruit and support clergy to join and support the FPL network to publicly speak out in press conferences, op-eds, sign on letters, and lobby visits for various issue areas
Assist with implementation, logistics, and turn out of FPL network for press conferences, webinars, fly-in actions, trainings, nonviolent direct action, and other events in Washington D.C. and across the country
Write emails and faith leader sign-on letters to send to our national network to take action on timely advocacy moments, in coordination with the communications department
Mobilize faith leaders for rapid-response opportunities in both D.C. and other relevant states on a range of issue areas
Track key legislation and lawmakers positions on various issues at the federal, state and local level at the direction of the National Campaigns Director
Oversee FPL partners working on FPL supported projects in local communities
Reach out to and develop new relationships with faith leaders from underrepresented backgrounds in key states for issue campaigns
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience required
At least 1-2 years experience working in issue advocacy or organizing.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and initiate projects
Fearless in picking up the phone to ask someone to do something
An organizer mindset. Ability to quickly connect with people and spur them into action.
Ability to juggle multiple projects for multiple issue areas at once and experience carrying projects to completion
Commitment to advancing racial equity and inclusion in previous work, and experience in racial equity and inclusion work and training a plus.
Passion for the faith community's contribution to social justice and the common good.
Experience working with faith community is not required, but must be willing to work with faith leaders of diverse faith traditions.
Proficiency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
This is an associate level position with a salary range of $45,000 to $50,000 dependent upon experience.
We offer generous and comprehensive benefits including full medical, dental and vision premium coverage, life insurance, and an FSA/DCA savings plan. We also offer an up to 6% 401k plan contribution and a commuter, cell phone and professional development stipend. We provide 15 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick days, 10 paid federal holidays, and additional paid administrative leave, including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
