Texas AFT is seeking a Deputy Field Director for the 2020 election. This position will be part of a team executing aggressive field and organizing plans across the state. The field team will be working on races up and down the ticket organizing AFT members, working with endorsed candidates, and implementing the long-term political goals of the organization. The Deputy Director will report directly to the Texas AFT Political Director. This is an excellent opportunity to work on targeted races in a battleground state. Position will run until mid-November 2020.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

·         Working with the Political Director to develop and execute volunteer and staff trainings.

·         Identifying, recruiting, and training volunteer leaders to help build political capacity at the state and local levels.

·         Developing and managing relationships with local leaders, targeted candidates, and volunteers across the state.

·         Assisting with messaging guidance including script development and working with mail and communications consultants.

·         Working with local leaders and staff to provide materials and guidance required to implement regional field plans.

·        ·         Coordinating and tracking direct voter contact and member programs to motivate and mobilize voters.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

 

·         At least two to three cycles of campaign experience or comparable organizing experience.

·         Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to and motivate staff and volunteers.

·         Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

·         Ability to work independently and in team settings.

·         Proven experience excelling in fast paced and metrics driven work environments.

·         Willingness to think creatively and solve problems proactively.

·         Ability to work long and irregular hours as needed.

·         Demonstrated ability to coach and train others.

·         Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle.

·         Knowledge of campaign technology including Voter Activation Network.

 

Salary is competitive and will include health benefits. Position will be based in Austin or Dallas, TX.
