Scion Staffing, Inc. (www.scionstaffing.com), a full-service staffing firm has been engaged to conduct a search for a Legislative/Ballot Measure Political Campaign Director for our incredible, nonprofit national client! Our client is actively building an anti-corruption movement here in the U.S. by pursuing federal reform through the states. The focus of this movement is to bring together people from the right, left and in between to forward these changes and give the average American a voice in the U.S. political system.
Specifically seeking: candidates who have experience as a Political Director or national-level leader on multi-state ballot measure, issue advocacy or legislative campaigns. Experience in electoral reform and/or anti-corruption efforts a plus.
Position Overview:
The Campaign Director plays a key role in advising and supporting select ballot initiative or legislative campaigns in the anti-corruption space to scale up and mature. A key focus is ensuring each campaign has the right talent, messaging and focus. Our client's Campaign Directors do not run the actual campaign but instead hold a seat at the table, observe what is going well and what isn't, and advise on what issues need attention. The organization has various partners and vendors that can also provide support (i.e. legal counsel, digital and design specialists, research, policy and political specialists, etc.). Thus, the Campaign Director is not required to be a specialist in these areas but instead must possess the ability to identify what is needed and connect their campaigns to the right people.
In this next year, the organization will provide deep strategic support and guidance to 15 or so key campaigns. These efforts will be led by the Campaign Directors working as strategic and tactical guides, liaisons and relationship gurus.
Reporting to the Senior Campaign Director, this role will work remotely most of the time and travel 4-8 days per month to be present for campaign launches and to provide on the ground support.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Strategy/tactical decision-making: Define and advise on the most impactful, cost-effective strategies for each campaign. Oversee and provide quality control for campaign budgets.
- Political personnel relationship management: cultivate rapport and influence with campaign contacts, partner groups, elected officials and other stakeholders.
- Connect: Serve as a liaison between your primary campaigns, your team and donors/stakeholders, in addition to third party vendors/support partners.
- Advise: Make judgments and provide advice about what pieces of a campaign need changes, and which changes should be prioritized over others. At times be able to provide a strong opinion and guidance around personnel, strategy or projects.
What You Bring:
- Significant (5+ years') experience as a national-level leader (i.e. Director or other similar title) managing the entirety of a state-wide ballot or legislative campaign. Experience in anti-corruption work a big plus.
- Ability to be rigorous in diagnosing issues and then provide sound counsel and guidance to assigned campaigns.
- Strong people engagement and relationships skills; ability to step in as an "outsider" to build trust and provide guidance.
- Ability to suggest and advocate for what may sometimes be unpopular changes, whether it be in how a campaign is being run, key personnel, strategy, etc.
- Highly organized to be able to manage multiple campaigns at once.
- Ability and desire to work in Central Time (whether you live in this time zone or can accommodate your schedule to it).
The Perks:
- Full-time, direct hire role.
- Competitive compensation: $85,000-$120,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Strong benefits package: 20 vacation days in addition to sick days, personal day and 10 paid holidays, strong health and dental plan (including 100% of health and dental premiums covered for the employee), retirement plan, etc.
- Work for an organization that is making systemic changes to the U.S. political sphere!
