Greenpeace USA is hiring a Senior Climate Campaigner for the Gulf Coast to join the Climate Campaign Team. The Campaigner will report to the Climate Campaign Director and play a vital role in shaping and implementing Greenpeace's climate and democracy campaigning in partnership with frontline organizations and allies in the Gulf Coast states.
This role will:
- In conjunction with the Climate Campaign Director, develop and implement plans in line with short term and long term campaign goals based on state, national and international objectives:
- Develop and lead the implementation of dynamic campaigns using a broad suite of online and distributive tactics.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the latest climate science and be able to present the information to a variety of audiences in language they can understand.
- Maintain a working knowledge of state, national and international political, legislative, regulatory and economic frameworks relevant to the campaign.
- Build alliances and/or support relationships with key constituencies, such as grassroots and frontline organizations, professional groups, labor, and others as identified in strategic planning.
- Work with GPUS Communications team in developing public materials; writing press releases and planning media strategies; acting as a spokesperson for campaigns to the media and developing proactive relationships with the media.
- Represent GPUS and the campaign at public events and with the environmental community at large.
- Work with GPUS Engagement team to design and curate content for social media and develop digital and distributed campaign actions that engage our members.
- Lead our work alongside coalition partners seeking to repeal the Critical Infrastructure law in Texas.
- Work in partnership with frontline organizations on legislative interventions against critical infrastructure and anti-protest legislation in the Gulf Coast.
- Lead our climate-related disaster response in the Gulf South.
- Conduct strategic research, relational research, and provide recommendations on our role in campaigns in the Permian Basin.
- Build strong relationships with frontline organizations and communities in the Gulf Coast.
- Direct, organize and participate in nonviolent direct action activities to support campaign goals.
Minimum requirements include:
- A BA/BS Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years environmental campaign experience, specifically in environmental and climate justice organizing and campaigning, grassroots organizing, and/or digital organizing.
- Commitment to nonviolent direct action and human rights, in particular the rights of Indigenous Peoples and frontline communities.
- On the ground experience in the Gulf Coast.
Additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- Strong relational skills and ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of people and organizations.
- Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with team, including multinational teams.
- Proven experience in digital campaigning and distributed organizing.
- Proven experience in directing a project from conception to completion, including setting and reviewing goals, assessing risks, delivering outcomes, and working with and leading a variety of people and groups.
- Demonstrated experience in research and writing, public speaking and issue advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action.
- Experience navigating issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion and a demonstrated commitment to advancing these values.
- Commitment to progressive values and peaceful non-violent direct action as a means of creating change.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes for significant lengths of time.
- Relevant language experience very desirable but not required; Spanish or French.
