Overview

The UFCW is seeking curious, open-minded researchers to use well-researched information to develop and execute comprehensive campaigns.

The Research Associate will be on the front lines of active union fights, responsible for researching public and private corporations and developing strategies for confronting their power.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct in-depth, ongoing research on public and private companies focused on gathering and analyzing information to assist active union fights against corporations.

  • Write, edit, proofread, and distribute highly accurate written material while under pressure with frequent deadlines to varied audiences. 

  • Flexible and adaptable to find the most effective means of communication on- and off-line depending on audience needs.

  • Frequent conversations with key stakeholders and public officials, and union staff.

  • Collaborate with worker leaders to tell their stories effectively to varied audiences.

  • Develop good working relationships with allies and stakeholders.

  • Travel and extended hours are required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. from college or university required. History majors preferred, but not required. Basic belief that economic inequality is a pernicious problem and the labor movement is a primary force for making change.

  • Must have demonstrated passion and commitment to fighting alongside workers to confront and change power. 

  • Must be able to discern facts, evaluate sources, and understand information systems, and maintain a constant curiosity.

  • Must be assertive and have excellent language, writing and computer skills.  Is excited about learning new skills.  Not intimidated or frustrated by detailed and technical tasks.

  • Must demonstrate initiative, and know how to ask questions. Enjoys following intricate instructions.

  • Works meticulously and accurately under pressure.

  • Maintains an open mind, remains skeptical, and does not jump to unsubstantiated conclusions.

 

Job Demands

Travel and extended hours are required, sometimes at the last minute. Must be able to engage in frequent travel throughout the U.S. Work often is performed with multiple projects occurring simultaneously under deadline. Valid driver's license is required.

 

Compensation:  Salary commensurate with experience. Generous benefits.
