Job Title: Project Manager

Classification: Full-time, exempt position

 

The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust facilitates change by collaborating with low-income communities of color in multiplying their power and influence over the use of land. We work with residents to increase access to parks and gardens, while organizing to change local policies to develop more equitable park and food systems for generations to come. We believe that this work is necessary to overcome decades of disinvestment, racism, and environmental injustice in low-income communities of color and that no person in LA County should live without a safe park or access to fresh, healthy food. As a community-based non-profit land owner, developer, and steward for safe public space, we work with residents from design to stewardship. 

 

We meet our goals by:

 

·      Designing, building and managing urban parks and gardens;

·      Organizing and developing campaigns to address both social and environmental conditions, including park equity and land use policy improvements;

·      Supporting and developing community leaders, both youth and adults to be advocates for park equity and food justice through programming, training, and technical assistance.

·      Partnering with community-based organizations, government agencies and key stakeholders to advance our project and policy work.

·      Since 2002, we've helped create 28 parks and community gardens. We currently steward 13 parks and community gardens.

 

Position Summary: The Project Manager oversees and leads the development of park projects including leading participatory design processes, supporting grant writing, community organizing, and new project vetting.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

·      Manage outreach, design and construction process for all park and green space projects.

·      Ensure that projects are constructed and/or implemented according budget, timeframe and professional standards.

·      Hire, coordinate with and oversee consultants during the creation of designs, drawings, construction documents.

·      Coordinate with consultants, contractors, City and County agencies, and other entities necessary to attain proper approvals, permits and other project-specific requirements.

·      Collect, organize, and interpret community member and stakeholder input and feedback.

·      Create and/or assist with the creation of designs and materials for distribution to community members and project stakeholders.

·      Assist with research to determine feasibility of potential properties and projects.

·      Support fundraising, outreach, and communications by providing graphics, maps, designs, project narratives, project budgets, and other information

·      Assist with various events and celebrations as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning or related field with at least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated consciousness of racial justice, environmental racism and equity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with low-income communities of color.
  • A California Driver's License.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Willingness to work after hours and weekends when necessary and ability to work independently.
  • Must thrive on change, innovation and teamwork.

 

Annual Salary: Salary is based on qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package with health, vision and dental insurance, 401k, vacation time, sick time, holidays, flexible schedules and the support of a healthy work-life balance.
