Job Description: Voter Protection Organizer

Salary: $40,000-$65,000, generous benefits package

About the Democratic Party of Wisconsin: For the next four years, Wisconsin state politics will carry an almost unprecedented intensity and level of historical significance. Wisconsin faces a pivotal local and state Supreme Court race in the spring of 2020, will be a – maybe THE – critical swing state in the 2020 presidential election. The 2020 state legislative elections will also shape redistricting in 2021, which will determine the state's political future for a decade to come. In 2022, the state will hold deeply competitive and consequential statewide elections, including for Governor and US Senator.
For the sake of the state's future – and the nation's – the Democratic Party of Wisconsin seeks an intelligent, personable, organized, self-starting individual to join our team.
The Opportunity: As a voter protection organizer, you will build a robust network of volunteer attorneys and advocates who will serve as Poll Watchers, liaisons to local elections officials, and staff a robust Voter Hotline. You will be responsible for executing a ground game that ensures that every eligible Wisconsin voter's voice gets heard in the 2020 elections and elects Democrats up & down the ticket by building & maintaining the volunteer voter protection infrastructure necessary for success in the Spring Elections, the November General Elections and beyond.

Job Responsibilities:
- Recruiting a robust team of volunteer attorneys, legal professionals, and advocates who will serve as County Liaisons, Poll Watchers, and Voter Protection Hotline volunteers.
- Assigning volunteers to their Election Day roles and shifts using VAN/VoteBuilder and LBJ softwares.
- Assisting with poll watcher volunteer training and management.
- Maintaining communication with volunteers between signup and Election Day, including informing them about opportunities to support the team's work.
- Cultivating relationships with community organizations and other allies, including faith organizations, colleges and universities, and local business leaders to recruit volunteers, identify potential impediments to voter participation, and educate voters.
- Using digital tools to engage new volunteers, educate voters, and highlight our work on the ground.
- Managing the team's volunteer data using VoteBuilder/VAN and LBJ.
Qualifications (Required):
- Growth mindset: ability to take and implement feedback.
- Relentlessly goal-oriented: enjoys working toward and achieving ambitious goals; willing to go over, under, around, or through any obstacle that gets in the way of meeting goals.
- Cultural competency: able to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues, voters, and volunteers who identify as POCI, and across lines of difference.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills are a must.
- Desire to fight for Democratic values and candidates.
- Ability to work long days with irregular hours while maintaining a positive, energetic attitude.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Previous organizing experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to stand up large-scale, diverse volunteer organizations that effectively deliver results by motivating and holding volunteers accountable for their goals. Adept at using data to inform strategy development, monitor progress to goal, and report on and analyze outcomes, including familiarity with VAN/Votebuilder, Excel, and other tools (ideally including LBJ). Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience managing a staff or team of volunteers.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the unique challenges of voter protection.
- Applicant should have access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel frequently.
