Director of Research and Polling

Reports to Florida Watch executive director. The director of research and polling manages the deputy research and polling director, online panel and any polling or research consultants.


Florida watch is a progressive communications and research hub with a digital first lens. We are driven by quantitative and qualitative research that is used to create engaging and Florida specific digital content. We want to meet people where they are in real life – which is on their phones and computers.


Qualifications

  • Six plus years of quantitative and qualitative research.

  • Prior experience managing staff.

  • Familiarity with digital defense tactics including social listening.  

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. The ability to explain and present research results and statistical analysis to lay people including coalition partners, policy-makers, and funders.  

  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt to the ever changing political landscape in Florida. 

  • Direct Florida experience is a must. 

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.


Responsibilities 

  • Working with partner organizations to get needed public opinion research in the field either though Florida Watch or partner organizations.

  • Draft research instruments, manage the editing and feedback process with Florida Watch staff and partners.

  • Managing and coordinating with partners the digital defense program.

  • Managing a research calendar to minimize duplicative research.

  • Turning research into scripts for organizations communicating with voters and policy-makers.

  • Working with communications and content staff to turn research into effective paid communications content. 

  • Briefing Florida Watch partner's on research findings.

  • Part of the Florida Watch leadership team that advises on the organization's programs and research needs.

  • Advising the Florida Watch executive director, partners and board on viability of targeted races based on quantitative research. 

  • Managing the opposition research process to make sure Florida Watch has the necessary source materials to write research instruments that are supported by facts. 


Compensation and Benefits 

The salary band for this role is $81,000-$96,000 annually and will be commensurate with experience. We also offer a 401k with up to a 5% match, health insurance, flexible work environment and paid time off. This is a permanent position with retention based on performance in the 2020 cycle.
