JOB POSTING (05/01/2020)
Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 22, 2020.
Position: Director, Voter Participation Innovation Hub
Who we are: For the last 17 years, the Voter Participation Center (VPC), a 501(c)(3) civic engagement organization, has led the way in recognizing and harnessing the potential power of the Rising American Electorate (RAE) – unmarried women, people of color, and young people. VPC has positioned itself as the leading experimental and scientific civic engagement organization by accumulating more than a decade's worth of knowledge and experience in registering and turning out the new majority of eligible voters. VPC's programs emphasize large-scale, technology-driven citizen and voter outreach, through the mail and digitally, and have consistently proven to be some of the most impactful and cost-effective programs every election cycle – and to date VPC has registered over 4.5 million Americans to vote. VPC continues to innovate with new theories and techniques to generate ever-greater civic engagement, registration and turnout. VPC's approach to programs incorporates a rigorous approach to data analysis, incorporating randomized trials, sophisticated modeling and other methods and technologies to determine what works best, what doesn't work, and with what audiences.
The Center for Voting Information (CVI) is a separate but affiliated 501(c)(4) nonprofit that works to engage and mobilize members of the RAE as well as a broader audience that shares the values of the RAE. CVI also engages in rigorous work to establish the unique, net impacts from its work, and uses data and technology to assure that each of its program areas help meet the goals of electing people representative of and responsive to the concerns of the Rising American Electorate. CVI also engages in persuasion efforts, informing voters of candidate positions.
Position Overview: VPC/CVI seeks a proven, creative leader to establish the organizations' first-ever dedicated Innovation Hub. The Hub is intended to lead efforts ensuring that VPC and CVI remain at the cutting edge of science and technology in the civic engagement field – data science, behavioral science, analytics, marketing and communications theories, and more.
The Hub will help advance and improve VPC/CVI programs, ensuring continued success in expanding democracy. The Hub Director will build a staff of experts in a variety of fields, and help manage a larger network of volunteer advisors from academia, high technology and business, dedicated to research, experimentation and program development to 'create a more representative electorate' by mobilizing traditionally marginalized and disenfranchised voters.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of innovative project management and development; and will be technically proficient in some number of relevant disciplines such as political science, behavioral economics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, statistics, polling design and analysis of public opinion, modeling, and quantitative and qualitative research skills, including deep familiarity with randomized controlled trials. Desirable characteristics include advanced educational achievement, a track record showing team leadership skills, and experience working in innovative research programs in nonprofits, business or the public sector.
The Director of the Innovation Hub will report to VPC's Founder and Board President Page Gardner, working closely with President and CEO Tom Lopach.
Compensation & Location: The salary range for this position will be competitive and commensurate with experience level. VPC has offices in Washington, DC and Raleigh-Durham, NC, however the location for this position is open to discussion. VPC/CVI offers an excellent benefits package, including 100% coverage of healthcare premiums. To apply, email resume, cover letter and at least three professional references to info@voterparticipation.org. References are not contacted until you are notified.
VPC/CVI is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
We strongly value the leadership of people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and other traditionally marginalized communities, and encourage diverse candidates to apply.
