ABOUT THIS POSITION
The 2020 ballot in North Carolina will be crowded with critical, competitive races, including President, U.S. Senate, Governor, state House, state Senate, and the state Supreme Court. As a result, we anticipate that progressive organizations will run their largest effort to date to mobilize a winning coalition in November. America Votes North Carolina is looking to grow our current staff to meet the needs of our partners as they reach for their most ambitious goals to date. Ideal candidates will have experience working across lines of difference, including race, gender, age, and ideology.
The North Carolina Program Manager plays a key role in the advancement of the progressive movement in the state, responsible for assisting the year-round coordination and alignment of electoral, organizing, advocacy and policy work among partners and allies. This position will support program implementation and reporting across the state coalition, including working directly with America Votes partners and allies in the state. Specifically, the North Carolina Program Manager will help provide training and services to partner organizations, and be responsible for deepening relationships and information sharing between America Votes and its partners. The position works directly with the America Votes team in North Carolina, as well as over thirty progressive partners and allies with the state's progressive movement. This position reports directly to the North Carolina State Director.
LOCATION
This position is based in North Carolina, with a preference for Raleigh or Charlotte.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic planning assistance: support coalition partners through the development of campaign plans (electoral, voting rights, and issue campaigns), providing technical and organizing assistance, responding to programmatic requests and participating actively in long-range strategic planning for the North Carolina progressive movement
- Support coalition coordination by tracking organizational programs, monitoring benchmarks, providing technical assistance, and identifying gaps in collective strategy.
- Support events of America Votes partners and allies including coalition meetings, trainings, and direct voter contact activities.
- Work with partner organizations using the voter file and other technologies to support and enhance issue advocacy and voter contact programs. This includes assisting partners in employing best practices and VAN trainings.
- Support the creation and development of written reports and products to tell the story of North Carolina and support the coalition.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities, particularly in political, electoral, and organizing settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume of information with impeccable attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and strategically disagree within a highly collaborative work environment; ability to be respected by progressive stakeholders, trusted to practice confidentiality, discretion, and legal compliance in the work.
- Experience managing electoral field campaigns, including experience with VAN, Votebuilder or similar.
- Ability to build strong relationships quickly and cultivate those relationships over the long term.
- Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively by meeting team goals.
- Excellent communication and time management skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to travel within the state (as needed); ability to work sometimes long, irregular hours, especially during the peak months of the electoral cycle. Must be a self-starter.
- Ideal candidates will have some experience in progressive political campaigns, progressive non-profits (with an organizing focus), or similar entities.
- Candidates should have a spirit of service and curiosity, along with a diplomatic approach to problem-solving.
- Positive attitude and a sense of humor.
PREFERRED
- Strong writing and communications skills.
- Proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, and other data visualization
- Experience implementing or managing digital programs or relational voter programs is a plus.
COMPENSATION
This position runs through December 31, 2020. The salary for this position will be between $4,100 - $5,000 monthly and depend upon the applicant's experience. Benefits for this position include health, dental and vision insurance as well as a 401(K) and paid vacation, sick days.
