The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a full-time Grant Writer and Coordinator.

About the Position

We are seeking a full-time Grant Writer and Coordinator who will be a key part of our Development Team, ensuring that CPD/A is stewarding and significantly building its portfolio of institutional donors and foundations. The person in this role will work with staff across CPD to draft grant proposals and reports, develop content for fundraising requests and communications to foundations, coordinate proposals and report submissions to funders, conduct prospect research, and assist with other development projects as needed. 

The Grant Writer and Coordinator will provide critical support to a rapidly growing organization and will report directly to the Development Manager. The person in this position will be able to work across diverse teams and workstyles, and will be excited to help the organization identify and administer systems that make our work flow more efficient. An ideal candidate will care deeply about the mission, be an excellent writer, have experience working in the social justice movement, and enjoy organizational systems. This is a newly-created position, and we are looking for someone who is eager to jump in, learn quickly, and take initiative.  The position would ideally be based out of our Brooklyn office.


Primary Responsibilities

The Grant Writer and Coordinator, will:

  • Help build, write, and edit proposals and reports, working closely with program leads, senior CPD staff, and other Development staff.

  • Project manage proposal and report submissions, including developing timelines for proposal/report development, scheduling meetings with program staff to discuss the plan of action, taking responsibility for deadlines, managing the multiple components that are required for a final submission, and ensuring that all submissions are high quality and accurate.

  • Coordinate submissions of grant applications and reports and meticulously track deadlines.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate information in CPD's Salesforce grant management system for proposal and report submissions, deadline management, and relevant contact information for institutional funders. 

  • Assist in building and running reports from Salesforce as needed to ensure high-quality grant management. 

  • Support the Development Manager on trainings for program teams around fundraising communications.

  • Be willing to take on other special projects and responsibilities as needed

Job Requirements

Applicants for the Grant Writer and Coordinator position should:

  • Be a superb writer. This role is primarily focused on drafting and editing written content for institutional funders. Strong applicants have at least 3-5 years of experience in writing or development work. 

  • Possess very careful attention to detail, both in producing written content, as well as preparing requirements for grant submission. 

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff while maintaining flexibility and tact.

  • Work effectively on a tight schedule and be able to set and meet realistic deadlines.

  • Be a team player who can also take initiative with strong organizational skills.

  • Possess the ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and perform assigned duties in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge and comfort with typical grant financial documents (i.e. budgets, financial reports, etc.) a plus. 

  • Show ability to work across multiple infrastructure and programmatic teams, with staff spread across the country, to meet goals.

  • Demonstrate a sense of humor and ability to work under pressure.

  • Have familiarity with Google Applications, Microsoft Office Suite, database management (ideally Salesforce) to run reports.

  • Possess a deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and the ability to see how development work is a core piece of furthering this mission-driven work.

Salary and Benefits

This is a union position. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years' experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $65,000-$75,000 and category 2. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is available here.

We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 14 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals' 401K plans.
