[jobsthatareLEFT by GAIN] Personal thoughts for this week & Invite to a GAIN POWER webinar May 11, 6:00 pm ET

Webinar Registration and some personal thoughts for this week.

This week I repointed the DemocraticGAIN.org URL to GAINPOWER.org.

This small action took just a few seconds, but was the culmination of years of work and was huge for me. I'm not sure I can fully explain all the crazy emotions I felt when I did this, but I want to share an analogy that might make sense to some.  Imagine renting or building a house that you've lived in for 17 years—all this time, you want to create and own a different home in a different place. And you want that place to have a very different style and aesthetic - a place you can live and work - you want it to be much bigger - a place where your friends can hang out and work too.  It takes you a few years. You can't afford an architect, so you design it yourself.  You can't afford a fancy contractor, so you hire a construction team with some specialized craftspeople. They have all the skills you need and more. They also happen to be your good friends - and they want to hang out there too, so they give you a great deal. You can't wait to complete it so you plan to move in before it is finished knowing that it is going to take you a few more years to afford to make it your dream space.  Finally, you say goodbye to your old house and move in yourself to this big empty unfinished place.  You start moving your things into it and invite others to do the same. You are happy and sad all at the same time - it is a sentimental sadness. You'll miss the old site, but you are excited about the new one and know it is going to be amazing.

When I pointed DemocraticGAIN.org to GAINPOWER.org, it felt like all these things to me. Democratic GAIN was a place I spent years of my life in - I put more time and money into it than I can count. A lot of other people did too. I made some of my best friends in it. It launched thousands of careers. It has a lot of beautiful memories in it, but it was time to say goodbye. I'm excited to move into GAINPOWER.org and take Jobs That Are Left with us!

GAIN POWER is much more than a new home or office. And it is definitely much more than a job board  - it is a place to network, learn, cross-market, collaborate, and celebrate our work. It is a place where you can live and work on your own but be surrounded by others who share your values.  You'll see old friends and meet new ones. GAIN POWER is a new site for Democratic & Progressive professionals to come and help build campaigns, organizations, and companies. It is a place for Democracy workers to democratize our Democracy. You can promote yourself and your work, your colleagues, learn from each other, get advice, take classes, have events, shop for many of your professional needs, and more - all virtually online.  We haven' finished the construction, but we're open for business and want you to join us today. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day, and we aren't going to develop GAIN POWER in a day, either. But, in this time of COVID-19, when we are all self-isolating, GAIN POWER is a powerful place to find a community and be together.  All who work in Democratic & Progressive electoral & legislative advocacy are welcome, but we have a bias for women, nonbinary, black, indigenous, and people of color. We have a preference for people working to correct racial, criminal, and economic injustice. We will go out of the way to prioritize,  lift, and celebrate this work. We welcome traditional and institutional activists, but we will never succeed if we do things the same way so we want more creatives, nontraditional activists, and those looking to reinvent our political institutions. Diversity & Inclusion isn't just a catchphrase; it is a mandate. Our mission is to GAIN POWER together.

If none of this makes sense - don't worry - we'll be explaining much more about what GAINPOWER.org is over the next few weeks and months.  You are welcome to come to visit anytime.- If you are running for office, working for a Democratic campaign, ballot measure, a progressive organization,  political firm, freelancer, or selling technology for any of these, please come build your place in it and create a page for our directory.  Trust me; you haven't seen anything like it. Don't judge us based on your first look. We haven't finished building or decorating yet - so it isn't as awesome as it will be yet - but the framework is built and we want you to come and stay. We have a lot of ideas but we want yours too. We want it to work for you. We want it to be a groovy and fun place to be so we are joyful while impactful. You didn't know you needed this place, but if you contribute to it, I promise you'll get more out than you give. We're looking for investors, partners, sponsors, individuals, nonprofits, vendors, party leaders, candidates, and campaigns to cohabitate with us. If you want to learn more about it we'll be hosting a webinar Monday night May 11 at 6:00 pm. Register here. Join us for a personal walk through the current site and the future vision. I hope you can make it.

I want to give a special shout out to a few of the collaborators and co-visionaries especially Seth Tanner, Darikka Scollard, Marc Cerabora, Phillip, and Jay Sylvano, Holly Armstrong, Alison Schwartz, Maurice Daniel, Heather Brown, Heather Barmore, and Kara Putnam. I want to give my colleagues and team at Digital Turf and Deliver Strategies colleagues thanks & gratitude along with some shameless self-promotion - you should hire these firms if you need a digital strategy or direct mail for a Democratic or Progressive campaign today.

We are living in an epic and unprecedented time, so we are launching a unique and unparalleled place - a virtual co-op and co-working space to GAIN POWER today.

Stay safe & keep organizing!
