Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst on the LGBTQ Research and Communications Project. The Policy Analyst's responsibilities will include developing and executing research plans, data analysis, writing reports and other products, and engaging with other organizations, researchers, and advocates to conduct research and advance policy priorities. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to innovate and work across issue domains and have a proven interest and respect for critical and intersectional thinking.
Responsibilities:
- Own an area of analysis for the LGBTQ team. This includes tracking major developments in that area, conducting appropriate analyses, providing commentary, and coming up with creative and workable policy solutions.
- Develop, implement, and manage the production and distribution of a variety of written products such as reports, issue briefs, columns, and op-eds that advance the LGBTQ team's work.
- Conduct quantitative analyses using data sets, including cleaning and merging data as well as using statistical software to produce original analyses.
- Conduct qualitative research and analyses of statutory, regulatory, and other policy documents.
- Provide research support for members of the LGBTQ team.
- Collaborate with other American Progress policy teams when needed.
- Represent the team through presentations and meetings with policymakers, coalitions, and others.
- Maintain expertise in assigned areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in economics, public policy, sociology, or social science or equivalent work experience.
- At least four years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in LGBTQ policy issues and knowledge of the legislative and administrative policymaking process.
- Excellent writing, research, and verbal communication skills with a significant body of written work.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiarity with SPSS, Stata, R, or other quantitative or qualitative software is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Able to initiate and engage in creative approaches to advancing policy.
- Proven ability to analyze laws, regulations, and policy.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by IFPTE Local 70.
