The New Florida Majority is an independent, political organization working to increase the voting and political power of marginalized and excluded constituencies toward an inclusive, equitable, and just Florida.
Job Description:
The Communications Coordinator will plan and implement New Florida Majority's integrated strategic communications program throughout the state of Florida. This includes earned media strategy, asset creation, training spokespeople, website maintenance, and paid media campaigns. The candidate will also work closely with the Program Communications Manager to implement a strategic communications capacity building program for programmatic and regional work.
The Communications Coordinator needs to be highly organized, energetic, relational, capable of motivating and managing coalitional and networked communications efforts. The Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Communications Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist the Program Communications Manager in writing content.
• Maintain the New Florida Majority's photo library by taking photos, seeking pro bono photography, or contracting with paid photographers to capture our work.
• Work with designers to design ads, flyers, banners, brochures, fact sheets, event signage, invitations, etc.
• With the Program Communications Manager to develop public relations strategies for organizational events and announcements.
• Write press releases and send them to press outlets.
• Maintain press list with accurate contact information.
• Assist in analyzing and reporting the impact of communications on organizational success.
• Assist with the organization and implementation of regional events.
• Help establish and maintain internal communications to keep staff informed of the work of the organization.
• Communicate New Florida Majority efforts/initiatives to donors/prospects by working closely with Program Communications Manager and Development Team.
• Develop new content and maintain the website. Write news stories, create new pages, and
solicit updates from other departments.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations or related field required.
• Applicant must share a commitment to the organization's mission.
• Experience with Adobe Suite/Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
• Experience with WordPress content management platform.
• Strong photography and videography skills.
• Demonstrates ability to write strategic communications pieces for an organization, including press releases, newsletters, website content, etc.
• The individual must be self-motivated and committed to workplace participation and diversity with the ability to work as a team member and independently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English required. Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Haitian Kreyol a plus.
• Ability to juggle many projects and meet deadlines in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
• Experience in political campaigns, unions or grassroots organizing for social justice issues is highly desired.
• Experience managing social media for an organization preferred.
• Prior experience in non-profit communications and/or fundraising preferred but not required.
• Ability to relate to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
