 POSITION AVAILABLE:   Election Protection Coordinator, New York  (temporary full-time contract position through November 2020)

 REPORTS TO Executive Director, Common Cause/New York

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Working in coordination with local partners and the Executive and Assistant Directors, the Election Protection Coordinator will help conduct Common Cause's election protection work in New York.  The coordinator will represent Common Cause in local election protection coalitions and be responsible for recruiting, training, assigning and supervising Common Cause members and other volunteers to participate in voter protection activities for the 2020 elections.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

●      Represent Common Cause and coordinate with other Election Protection coalition partners, as required.

●      Engage the coalition of organizations working together in Election Protection.

●      Work with national and local allies to recruit and train volunteers to serve as non-partisan volunteers, assisting voters and reporting problems.

●      Work with local allies to develop organizational communications and supervisory structure for early vote and Election Day operations.

●      Be a contact for, and coordinate, volunteers from the general public referred by partner organizations.

●      Schedule and engage teams of volunteers in Election Day activities, providing command center and field support for poll monitoring teams and captains.

●      Organize and conduct virtual volunteer trainings.

●      Assist with drafting post-election report to memorialize best practices, evaluate program and recommend improvements for future Election Protection efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Familiarity with, and skill in, online advocacy, community or political organizing and distributive organizing..

·       Ability to build and cultivate relationships with people and organizations of various orientations and backgrounds.

·       Excellent interpersonal communication and public speaking skills and the ability to motivate people to act.

·       Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, including the ability to work effectively with those belonging to groups of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, language, ability, age and socioeconomic status.

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       Capable of juggling multiple priorities simultaneously.

·       Demonstrated ability for clear, concise and persuasive writing.

·       Ability to work independently, initiate projects and work with minimal supervision.

·       Experience coordinating volunteers.

·       Familiarity with, and skill in, online advocacy.

·       Flexibility, creativity, curiosity and a good sense of humor.

·       Flexibility to work nights and weekends and travel in New York, if required.

·       Spanish, Bengali, Haitian Creole, or Chinese language skills desired, but not necessary.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite required, proficiency in Action Network (or similar website and advocacy management program) mastery a plus
