Title: Research Analytics Manager

We are seeking a motivated research manager with exceptional writing ability and data analysis skills. The research manager will be a key part of a research team that works to understand the toll of gun violence in America and identify solutions to address this epidemic.
This is a full-time position based in our San Francisco, CA office. As the safety and wellbeing of our team is of utmost importance, all Giffords staff members are working remotely until it is safe for us to resume working in an office, traveling, and holding in-person meetings.

Duties + responsibilities:
- Compile and conduct research to help address the epidemic of gun violence in America
- Monitor and critically analyze emerging research on gun violence and assume responsibility for integrating relevant findings into factsheets, web content, and other materials.
- Support the organization's legal, policy, advocacy, and communications teams by compiling research and data to support particular initiatives and providing fact-checking for public-facing materials.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal datasets by compiling and synthesizing data from federal and state data sources (e.g. CDC's Fatal Injury Reports, FBI Uniform Crime Data, FBI Background Check Data).
- Assist with longer-term research projects—including those involving original data analysis and research—by helping to code data, conduct database integrity checks, and draft key sections of research reports.
Essential skills + experience:
- 1-3 years experience conducting social sciences or public health research
- Strong analytical research skills, with interest and experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
- Exceptional writing skills and ability to clearly translate complex research for diverse audiences, including racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
- Experience accessing, cleaning, merging, and conducting basic statistics on social science datasets
- Experience conducting literature reviews and critically evaluating study methodologies
- Experience conducting research through an equity lens and considering factors of identity, privilege, and inclusion in technical analysis
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Superb organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
- Ability to take initiative on projects and work with minimal supervision
- Experience using a statistical software package (Stata, SPSS, and/or SAS)
- Experience working with government-generated data sources, such as U.S. Census data or FBI crime data
- Degree in criminology, public health, or related social sciences field
The salary range for this position begins at $55,000 with the exact salary depending on experience.
