WHO WE ARE:
GetCourageNow is a non-profit. open source, tiny activist tech team based in the US, Mexico and Germany. We are devoted to developing the first highly secure, fear-minimizing courage-unleashiing ladder of engagement software tool that can be easily white label integrated into nonviolent civil resistance-based campaign websites' Take Action tabls, especially for climate, democracy, and economic justice campaigns. We are four years old.
OUR MISSION: To our knowldege, GetCourageNow's software is the only software specifically designed and coded to enable nonviolent mass civil resistance-based campaigns to systematically embolden, recruit, and commit massive numbers of resistors and resistor supporters --the numbers needed to win- while evading internet censorship and data breaches. Hence it is the only software whose mission is to scale the most important of all virtues, moral courage, and therefore, arguably the highest best use of technology. It consists of enrollment (recruitment & commitment) and CMS-like components, and will be free to climate, economic, social, and election justice campaigns.
THE URGENT NEED FOR OUR TOOL and THE UNIQUE COFOUNDER OPPORTUNITY:
At a time when progressives have had to get serious about how Americans can be rapidly mobilized to thwart a coup, or if it occurs, quickly overthrow it, and at a time, when regardless of who wins the Presidency or controls the Congress, history has shown that mass nonviolent resistance is our last best hope for stopping our catastrophic climate and species extinction trajectory, and for stopping and significantly reversing grotesque wealth inequality, this is a chance to work with cutting edge technology in an all new GRPC/Envoy-based Golang system that arguably could be the most important social change tool of 2021. And our cofounder is also the development (fundraising) director.
There is also a highly monetizable spinoff; a real time communication product (an alternative to the myriad of organization and collaboration tools all in one secure place) that would enable major mainstream media, human rights, environmental, and social justice groups etc to operate free of censorship in countries like Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia.
We use Flutter for GUI and Golang for all networking. The architecture, product fit, and stakeholder relationships have been established and tested. We are now looking to fill an Executive Director (or Campaign Manager or Project Director--whchever title you prefer) role with someone who has sufficient project management and IT experience, specifically in the area of app development, and might also be willing to work with our development director to expedite further fundraising
Prerequisites:
The more IT experience you have, the better (bonus if you are familiar with Golang and/or Flutter, or at least have senior goland engineer friends will connected to that community). If you are weak here, a dedicated mentor might suffice.
Experience in an Executive Director or Project Manager role (a tech startup preferred by not required)
Ability to understand or quickly pick up the technical terms and software architecture used within this project
Confident in communicating professionally with partners, funders, and clients
- Ability to network to potential funders and/or grassroots climate, voting rights, social justice campaigns
- Not required but big plus: A history of strong activism
- Some understanding of the research (eg Erica Chenoweth) on what is the best proven strategy for major social, economic, and political change, and arguably the our last best hope for saving Mother Nature before it's too late
Responsibilities:
Provide direction to business team on matters related to fundraising, networking, and project development
Work with Prior Project Director to raise additional funds (primarily from individual donors and/or crowdfunding). $65k raised so far from two foundations and several $1000-5,000 donors). Our researcher can provide contact info.
Liaise with CTO on the progress and requirements of the application development
Host meetings with partners, funders, and clients
Business and Technology requirements gathering
Compensation and Hours:
Pre POC (during 2-3month beta testing period) Negotiable PT OK
- Post POC: $4-7k/mo depending on where you live, our level of funding, and your hours/mo
