About Organizing Empowerment:
Organizing Empowerment aims to help organizations understand the principles of relational organizing and have the skills, software, and financial support to be successful in their organizing work. Organizing Empowerment will provide full support to an organization by working with them to develop, write and implement a relational organizing plan that fits into their larger mission and provide them with training to develop and apply core skills in their volunteers. Organizing Empowerment's trainers, who are some of the most experienced relational organizing professionals in the country, will provide the support and training needed to increase this critical approach's effectiveness. We hope to lift up organizations across this country to achieve their organizing goals through training, software, and funding.
Job Description:
This person will serve as a Communications Specialist for Organizing Empowerment Project, emphasizing work on media relations, external communications and help drive content and messaging strategy as part of our communications strategy.
Duties Include:
Writing and editing funding materials that support Development Director's initiatives and messaging
Support the development and implementation of a multi-faceted communications plan, which include message development, web presence, advocacy, and social media to educate, motivate, and influence target audiences
Creation, development and update of messaging materials as part of communications strategy
Identify opportunities for communications engagement, and provide front-line support in drafting content, including talking points, press releases, op-eds, blog posts, factsheets, and digital content like social media.
Develop and maintain relationships with reporters (local and national) who focus on issues related to Relational Organizing
Successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
● Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
● Able to work in a varied work environment with multiple projects in progress at once.
● Proficient in Canva, Word, Powerpoint, Google Suite and possesses some general digital marketing skills.
Additional consideration will be given to candidates with any of the following background:
● Have a strong background in Relational Organizing or general field organizing techniques.
● Have a background in political organizing or training.
● Have interacted with progressive organizations or political campaigns in a professional capacity.
● Previous background working in diverse communities or cultures.
● Previous background with the use of graphic or web design tools
● Be fluent in a second language.
Time commitment: This a full-time position. Organizing Empowerment is based in Madison, Wisconsin, but all employees are remote.
Compensation: $50,000 a year plus benefits
