End Citizens United//Let America Vote's Mission: To fix our democracy by getting big money out of politics and protecting the right to vote. We will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. We will work in partnership with these champions to overturn Citizens United, end the unlimited and undisclosed money in politics, and protect and expand the right to vote.
Reports to: Vice President, Political
Job Summary: The Political Director is a member of the senior staff at End Citizens United//Let America Vote and is responsible for leading and implementing ECU//LAV's political efforts, coordinating with appropriate departments and ensuring alignment with the strategic direction for the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Own and execute ECU/LAV's federal candidate endorsement process, including monitoring U.S. Senate and House political landscape for opportunities for engagement, conducting interviews with candidates, and making recommendations on candidate endorsements.
Be the first point of contact and maintain relationships with endorsed candidates and campaigns.
Work with the VP, Political to develop a strategic plan to support and prioritize endorsed campaigns.
Engage and maintain relationships with Democratic Party committees, key progressive organizations, and other Democracy Reform partners.
Coordinate external briefings for partners and allies to share ECU/LAV research findings.
Hire, train, and manage Political Department staff.
Represent ECU/LAV publicly at meetings, candidate events, GOTV kick-offs, and occasionally in the press or on panels.
Work with other department directors to ensure the organization is being as impactful as possible in advancing Democracy Reform issues.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The Political Director must be a self-starter with at least 5 years of political and campaign experience. They should have a strong interest in stopping big money in politics, protecting voting rights and helping elect democracy reform champions to Congress, possess excellent communication skills, good attention to detail, the ability to think on one's feet. The Political Director must be willing to travel extensively and committed to the diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff.
