A competitive, progressive, historic candidate for a campaign that represents 2.6 million residents is recruiting a full time Communications Director to join the fight for a Brooklyn and New York City that is centered on creating transformational change for all residents, and especially for women, seniors, families, children, working class residents, immigrants, people of color, and the marginalized and underserved communities.
We are seeking an experienced media relations professional to serve as Communications Director (this is not an entry-level role). We're open to a wide variety of experiences and work backgrounds. The ideal candidate will possess a mix of some of the following qualifications (none are requirements, but provided to give a sense of the workload and responsibilities of the position):
Qualifications:
Experience: You have served in a media relations role (e.g. Press Secretary, Communications Director, etc.) for 2-3 election cycles, or have 2-4 years of experience pitching stories and working with reporters
Media relations: You know the difference between a good pitch and a bad pitch, and are ready to have your main work product be creating new reporter relationships and using existing ones to push the message of the campaign and place stories in news outlets
Existing press relationships: You already have a network of reporter contacts and know whom to call to place particular stories, ideally in New York City outlets
Writing and messaging: You are a skilled and experienced writer, whether with press releases or op-eds, and know how to put together a message strategy and execute on it, including keeping staff and principals/candidates/elected officials on message
The communications director will be full time through June 2021 and the role offers competitive
compensation. Desired state date is March 1st. but can be flexible for the right candidate. Position can be remote to start, with expectation to be based in New York City sometime in 2021, with reasonable notice.
Compensation:
Base salary for this position is $5,500 per month.
