America Votes serves as the central coordination hub of the progressive community both nationally and in 20 states across the country. Working with over 400 state and national partner organizations, as well as a robust range of data and targeting tools, America Votes leads collaborative efforts to advance progressive policies, expand access to the ballot, coordinate issue advocacy and election campaigns, and protect every American's right to vote.

As a leading progressive organization, America Votes is committed to help mentor the rising stars of the progressive movement. Interns for America Votes-New Hampshire will be involved with the day-to-day operations and will learn about AV-NH and how we operate. Our goal is to recruit smart, hardworking interns that will be able to manage in a small, fast-paced organization and that will learn the roles and responsibilities of organizing policy makers and partners alike.


Program Overview:
America Votes-New Hampshire seeks a policy and organizing intern for the spring semester of 2015. Ideally candidates should be able to work from February through July, but exceptions can be made. Candidates should be comfortable working in a professional, non-profit setting and engaging community members in various settings to discuss the importance and impact of election reforms and promoting the work of AV-NH. The intern will assist with legal research and policy analysis on a wide range of laws and pending legislation, including election, campaign finance and disclosure law. The intern will also assist with various other organizing projects of the America Votes coalition.

This internship is located in Concord, NH and open to current undergraduate, law and graduate school students.

Essential Functions:
·         Review, analyze and provide legal and policy impact summaries of proposed legislation
·         Draft talking points and provide communications documents to use with elected officials
·         Attend and participate in coalition and stakeholder meetings
·         Conduct analysis of New Hampshire and other state campaign finance and election laws
·         Perform special projects
·         Assist with partner projects and programs
·         Assist with electoral analysis and reporting
·         Attend and participate in legislative hearings and attend House votes
·         Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
·         Strong writing and deductive skills
·         Self-starter
·         Strong interpersonal communication skills
·         Willingness to be creative and flexible in tasks from week to week
·         Comfortable conducting research and working independently
·         Supporter of America Votes' mission and services

Time Commitment & Other Information:
The internship will run from February to July 2015. Candidates should be willing to dedicate at least 12 hours per week to the internship, including regular weekly shifts in the Concord office and some evening and weekend work as needed. The internship offers a $250 monthly stipend. If applicable, college credit is available.
