Elections Field Organizer - Chicago, Illinois
FULL TIME • STARTS ASAP • COMPETITIVE PAY • EXCELLENT BENEFITS • Chicago
Location: Chicago, IL
Background:
MoveOn.org Political Action represents the collective will of MoveOn's more than 8 million members at the ballot box by helping to elect progressive candidates to office and defeat candidates who stand in the way of progress.
MoveOn members in Chicago have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Jesus "Chuy" Garcia in the February 24 Chicago Mayoral election. Garcia has been a progressive voice in the state legislature and City Council for decades, and is running against incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
As a Elections Field Organizer with MoveOn, no two days will be the same. You're responsible for harnessing and energizing MoveOn members in Chicago. That means on any given day you might be working one-on-one with one of the most dedicated MoveOn leaders in Chicago organizing events to support Jesus "Chuy" Garcia; or training volunteers and running local phone banks to turnout more progressive voters.
Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Recruitment. MoveOn has 75,000 members in Chicago. You'll work to recruit and organize them to make a difference on the campaign of Jesus Chuy Garcia.
- Leadership Development. You'll work with MoveOn volunteers and develop them into leaders on the Garcia for Chicago campaign.
- Rapid response. When news breaks, our network needs to respond immediately. Whether it's rallies or house parties, you'll make sure MoveOn responds forcefully when we need to spring into action.
- Report. You'll report directly to MoveOn's Elections Field Director and work closely with the Garcia for Chicago field team.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven recruitment skills, with experience identifying, training, and motivating large teams of grassroots volunteers and leaders.
- Excels at working with and leading teams and large groups.
- A gift for leadership development management--to delegate work and responsibility in rapid-response environments while intentionally developing the skills of individual volunteer leaders.
- Disciplined professionalism--ideal candidates will be timely, hardworking, low-ego leaders, ready to work long hours in fast-paced environments to get the job done, and consistently able to convey a professional tone to volunteers, supporters, voters, and fellow staffers.
- Strong working knowledge of VAN/Votebuilder systems.
- A genuine commitment to progressive values.
- Fire--the ability to share an inspiring vision for this campaign and our democracy, and to use this to motivate others to take action.
- Strong knowledge of Chicago culture and politics.
