The Kansas Democratic Party is seeking an Executive Director.  This is a permanent, full-time position within the state party headquarters based in Topeka, KS.  


Goals

  • Devising, implementing and managing the execution of the Kansas Democratic Party, its overall election strategy and activities, and its plan for growth.


  • Planning and executing successful election-based activities.


  • Building a self-sustaining Party infrastructure at the statewide, district and county levels.


Responsibilities

  • Supervising staff and performing reviews.


  • Reviewing staff functions and restructuring job responsibilities, if necessary.


  • Interviewing applicants and making recommendations for final staff selection.


  • Working with fundraising staff, consultant(s) and/or telemarketer(s) and other vendors to monitor and maximize fundraising efforts.


  • Ensuring all campaign finance reports and other required reports are accurately and timely filed.


  • Working with communications staff, consultants and State Chair to issue press releases, speak out on important issues, respond to attacks, and present the Democratic Party in a positive, professional light.


  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with Democratic Party leaders, elected officials, key constituencies, and donors.


  • Developing training programs for the state party, including precinct committees, activists, and candidates.


  • Overseeing development and production of party-building and message delivery tools, including brochures, newsletters, fax briefings, and website.


  • Organizing all meetings of the State Committee and Executive Committee as required by state party bylaws and state statute.


  • Demonstrating an understanding of all aspects of elections including election law, campaign techniques, campaign planning, targeting, polling, and get-out-the-vote programs and vendor selection to assist in these endeavors.


  • Implementing programs such as delegate selection, platform development, and voter registration.


  • Working with the State Chair, Treasurer and Finance Committee to develop and adhere to an operating budget.


  • Working with local and national caucuses to identify, mentor, recruit and train Democratic candidates for state and federal office.


  • Working with party leaders to determine goals and priorities and monitor progress.


  • Preparing a written monthly report of state party activities for monthly conference calls and all meetings of the State Committee and Executive Committee.


  • Acting as liaison with the staffs of the Democratic National Committee and the Association of State Democratic Chairs.


  • Attending ASDC and DNC meetings


Qualifications

  • A minimum of at least six (6) years of political experience.  This should include experience in planning, running and winning campaigns.


  • At least two full cycles (4 years) in a leadership role in major statewide races or state-based organizations.


  • Significant staff and crisis management experience with proven, clear decision making ability.


  • Demonstrated success in fundraising.
