Request for Proposal – Texas Public Affairs

The U.S. Green Building Council is seeking proposals for a public affairs and communications consultant with experience working with earned media in Austin, major urban areas and key communities across the state. The ideal candidate will help USGBC and its Texas chapter to educate and to work with Texas thought leaders, policy makers and media elites to improve understanding of and support for LEED and green building in general.

The scope of the project will focus on media relations, particularly:

1.     In concert with USGBC State and Local Campaign Manager and Communications Director, develop and execute an earned media plan over the course of 2015 to elevate the issue of building energy benchmarking, LEED and green building incentives in local communities across the state;

2.     In concert with USGBC State and Local Campaign Manager and Communications Director, develop and execute a media relationship-building plan to position USGBC as the media go-to for green building and sustainability issues among editors and reporters at major dailies, community papers, influential online platforms (political/bipartisan as well as environmental and health) and broadcast outlets in key markets; and

3.     In concert with USGBC State and Local Campaign Manager and Communications Director, manage rapid-response and opportunistic earned media work around positive and negative developments in the green building space in Texas over the course of 2015.

Requirements:

       Strong environmental, energy, political and business earned media relationships in major markets and across platforms.

       Proven track record of securing sustainability, environmental and energy-related news coverage in outlets across the state.

       Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with client leadership.

       Experience developing and executing public affairs plans.

       Ability to work in a bipartisan manner.

Proposals should include an outline of how the candidate believes the above goals can be achieved, a proposed budget, and resume/prospectus.
