Position Title: Legislative Assistant
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger is a national nonprofit working to end hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the United States and Israel.
MAZON, which means "food" or "sustenance" in Hebrew, was the first national organization to rally the American Jewish community around the issue of hunger, and remains the only national Jewish organization dedicated exclusively to that same cause.
MAZON employs three interrelated strategies – education and advocacy, partnership grantmaking and strategic initiatives – in our effort to approach the problem of hunger holistically. We are committed to ensuring hungry people have access to the resources they need today, and working to develop and advance long-term solutions so that no one goes hungry tomorrow.
Position Overview:
MAZON's office in Washington, D.C. coordinates the organization's advocacy work at the federal level by direct engagement with Congressional and Administration offices and by leveraging relationships with policymakers maintained by grantee and synagogue partners.
The Legislative Assistant will provide general office support to MAZON's Washington staff with specific responsibilities designed to support the organization's federal advocacy work. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, be a self-starter and team player. He/she should be able to anticipate challenges as well as provide suggestions for improvement. This position reports to the Director of Government Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Interact with Congressional Offices and provide legislative research as needed, such as bill tracking, committee lists, vote counts, voting records, and staff contacts.

Maintain and update relevant content for Salesforce database and website, including contact profiles, meeting notes, Congressional office information, issue briefs, and action alerts.

Maintain and organize all files for testimony, correspondence, sign-on letters, and action alerts

Coordinate design, distribution, tracking, and evaluation of action alerts and advocacy related mass
communications.

Handle all requests for advocacy materials, assemble packets for advocacy meetings, and prepare lobby
visit reporting forms for Salesforce.

Take meeting minutes and facilitate communications for Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee
and assist with logistical details for MAZON board meeting in Washington.

Provide general office support. Receive visitors, answer office phones, and order office supplies.

Schedule meetings and maintain various organizational calendars, records, files, and meeting
communications.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; one to three years support experience, preferably at a nonprofit organization. Anti- hunger experience a plus.

Knowledge of advocacy process and government relations desired.

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail.

Must have excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as part of
a team.

Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to achieve integrated strategies that support MAZON's mission.

Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and databases required. Salesforce experience a plus.
