COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
The Community Organizer is responsible for recruiting, growing and strengthening a base of Domestic Workers, as well as support our other women of color and immigrant rights organizing efforts
Duties and Responsibilities:
- · Recruitment, research, and strategic planning to move Domestic Workers members to social action;
- · Program implementation that help in engaging and organizing community members to be a part of the Miami Workers Center
- · Work with members and volunteers to realize goals of domestic worker organizing, including a local Domestic Worker's Bill of Rights
- · Provide training domestic workers members on the principles and concepts of community organizing.
- · Coordinate large community action meetings.
- · Participate in coalition meetings where the Miami Workers Center is a member as needed
- · Participate in community events, and conferences and build partnerships as appropriate.
- · Coordinate and facilitate educational leadership development activities.
- · Develop and facilitate education workshops and seminars for diverse groups and individuals.
- · Coordinate the organization's participation in National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA), We Belong Together and Florida Immigrant Coalition activities.
- · Identify, build relationships, and liaise with existing neighborhood organizations and community-based group.
- · Conduct social media outreach.
- · Supervise volunteers from the community, area colleges and membership to help with programs and campaigns, projects, event planning, data entry, and office tasks.
- · Support shared staff general administrative tasks including answering and returning phone calls, members pick ups, etc.
- · Engage in additional activities such as fliering, door-knocking, blog posts, calendar updates, email newsletters, photos, website updates, other outreach, and general project support as needed.
- · Maintain cooperation and participation with other staff.
- · Participate in staff meetings and other agency required events.
- · Prepare required monthly reports, communications and other documentation.
- · Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must have access to a vehicle
- Must be bi-lingual in English and Creole. Additional proficiency in Spanish a plus
- Must live in South Florida or be willing to relocate to South Florida
COMPENSATION
- Commensurate to experience
