Political Analysts are part of our Applied Data Science Team, and based in Washington, DC. Civis's roots are in vote science and we take pride in building on work we pioneered. Political Analysts work closely with campaigns, committees, and political advocacy organizations to predict and influence election and policy outcomes at the local, state, and national level. As a Political Analyst, you will need to pair detailed knowledge of politics and political behavior with the hard skills to solve problems, analyze large data sets, and leverage data to inform political strategy. Our political deadlines are often tight, and we work to ensure our insights are delivered accurately and quickly. This role reports to an Applied Data Science Manager.

We are looking for individuals from a wide range of backgrounds with demonstrated quantitative and problem-solving skills. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support on client engagements
  • Actively maintain Civis's client list through trainings and account maintenance
  • Build strong relationships with clients, including timely client communication
  • Implement solutions to complex client problems
  • Create insights and deliverables based on survey data
  • Ensure deliverables provide substantive value to clients, adhere to our standards, and further our mission
  • Communicate all facets of the work with clients of varying levels of technical expertise

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical subject (statistics, math, economics, physics, etc) or equivalent quantitative training
  • Strong familiarity with the political landscape of the United States, including parties, candidates, and issues
  • Experience with data-driven political decision making (ex: optimizations, resource allocation)
  • Strong experience with Excel and SQL
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical package (R, Python, STATA, etc)
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Proven ability to work pragmatically with statistical concepts
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in an analytical subject
  • Previous work experience in a startup or rapidly growing company
  • Experience working with several hierarchy levels within consulting firm
